Sorry, missed that one, I was commenting on this one.
And didn't you just contradict your original statement?
We didn't act then, when we should have acted, so now things are worse and if we don't do something now, then 10 years from now it will be worse, so on and so on.
It will continue to be harder, so we must bite the bullet and come up with some solutions that will work now, whether it's popular or not.
Au Contraire ! Instead of a climate Bill, lets "Drill Here and Drill Now" like
we should have done 10 years ago. This is definitely not a popular stance with environmentalists who think the oil in America belongs to them not
the American people.

Sorry, I forgot about the unending supply of natural resources that will allow us to continue to pollute the environment by enabling us to continue living our comfortable air-conditioned, plastic bottle water drinking, SUV driving lives in peace for the next what 50-60 years without giving up one thing. And wasn't the oil here before there was an America ?
Like I said, it'll be good for the grandkids, nature is over-rated anyway
As opposed to the unending supply of governmental regulation masquerading
as environmental protectionism that seeks to dominate every aspect of our grandchildrens lives to the point of totaltarian enslavement which makes life
not worth living in their pure ecosystem of the future.
My new slogan - Big Brother protect us from the mean selfish, polluting capitalists !!!

And the alternative is what??? Not saying that I agree with even 1% of your post.
America needs to become more independant. That means providing more of our own resourses. We have them and they are untapped.
Bills that would only handicap us further no matter how they are labled are not the answer.
I am all for doing away with an energy dept that has long out lived its viability. Create a new department whose mission is to find new fuels. New enviromentally friendly fuels. I am all for that.
SUV's? I am all for improved fuel efficiency. If soccer moms want to drive an SUV its on them to fill the tank. Some of us need dependable 4 wheel drives. I drive a Toyota tacoma. Where I live winter roads can be dangerous. That doesn't mean I should be penalized by enviro-nuts.
30 years ago it was a coming ice age now its global warming, whats next?
Before you attemt to lecture me on how to live green my house is a pretty good model for green. Geo thermal heat pump. double the standard insulation in the walls and almost triple in the ceilings. Positioned to take advantage of winter sun. I am there already. I would love to drive a hydogen powered vehicle. None are available. I would go for a clean diesel. But the enviro nuts keep blocking building new refineries so diesel is not an option. Taxing fuel only hurts the poor.
Build mass transit systems. I am for that. Been to europe and asia both have made the system work remarkably well. These are solutions that are doable today.
There are viable alternative fuels and corn ethenol isn't one of them. I agree make the big 3 and the oil companys invest some of their profits in fuels for tommorow. Its a win win deal and a far better alternative to the now defeated bill.
I am not an environmentalist, I am just very frustrated with a system that seems to just keep putting off important legislation because it isn't convenient,. Of course, no one wants to pay more for gas, but I would if part of what I was paying was going towards new kinds of energy development. I understand the need for some to own big trucks, I work in a construction related field, so that is definately understandable, but I do not understand the need for a family of 3 or 4 to own a Ford Excursion, unless it has higher fuel standards, which they do not and only will if people put up enought fuss about it, which they will only do when gas is the way it is now.
I don't think we need to tap into anymore oil, because we as Americans have a problem, oil is like crack to us, we can't just find another dealer because the other dealer was ripping us off before, we just need to get off the stuff. Drilling for more oil will just cause the price to go down for awhile, and then we'll be back here again in a few years, nothing will really get down because unless it's really hitting people in the wallets, there are other concerns that people will focus on.
Wasn't it 10 years ago that congress failed to pass the energy bill that would have authorized building more refineries, because it wasn't convenient at the time and would take too long to achieve.
Yes Warner was a co-sponsor and there was a whole thread on that previously.
