It's time to use common sense, which I know seem's to be in short supply these day's, never the less we need to make it happen. Yes we need to conserve , yes we need to be looking at alternatives and new technology, but this is what we need to do NOW! American Solutions - Petitions

Yes, I actually agree that we should be exploring and drilling in ANWAR etc (with as little environmental impact as possible) but at the same time, what ever we do get out of there is only going to put a band aid on the problem as the large oil wells in the world are dying and production will begin declining. Whatever oil we do get from ANWAR and off shore, we must use wisely (not burned up in an SUV driving the kids to soccer practice) as we search for alternatives. If we continue to burn it up at the pace we currently are, it sure wont last long and we will be back to where we started out or worse in a hear beat.

They can push, gripe and sign all the GD petitions that they want but they are NOT going to drill a damn thing off the shores here. I can tell you now that if you want to see Hell on earth send the rigs down to Georgia or Florida and tell us you wish to drill for oil off our coast! It will NOT happen- I don't care a damn if gas is $10 a gallon! Neither of these states has spent millions of tax dollars and all the efforts to have clean pristine beachs that millions of us enjoy to have them wrecked because some guy thinks he pays too much to fill up his Hummer.
And if Mccain flip flops on this, he will NOT win Florida and without it he will not even come close to winning the election (not that he is going to anyway). Even the Republican Govorners down here (Perdue and Christ) would raise all kinds of HELL if that was tried!
I trust Obama on this issue. He will protect our great and wonderful beaches here. And children 100 years from now that go to Tybee Island will thank him for it!

I don't have a problem with drilling ANWR though that shouldn't be viewed as a be all/end all solution. It should be drilled to provide shorter-term relief while we transition from oil to alternative fuels. Beaches?....depends on where. They should leave the beautiful beaches of Florida and up the Atlantic seaboard alone.

Exactly what does drilling off shore have to do with pristine beaches? kevk, you need to open your mind to the exiting possibilities and think of the masses not your selfish self, after all that is the liberal dogma, Right?

Calm down. All this nasty talk - "GD petitions", "see Hell on earth", "I don't give a damn", "raise all kinds of hell". All this concern about some attachment to sand. Heck, keep this up and we won't send any fresh water your way when you are out of the stuff - and I don't give a damn if you are willing to pay $100 a gallon for some nice, cold, fresh water.

Well said, look the bottom line is, someone "country" is going to buy the lease's for all of the oil right's off shore, so if it isnt us it will be China who will care a whole heck of a lot less about your precious beach's than those in this country! One of my most favorite place's in the world is the beautiful white sand beach's in gulf shore's Alabama, I cant think of a better sight than watching the sun rise over a productive oil rig off in the far distance!

I'll give 1 penny for drilling for each dollar for alternatives.

Selfish as a liberal mantra? HA! Tell that to the Republican fat cats who don't want to pay taxes! Selfish isn't partisan. Plenty of people from both sides of the ideological spectrum don't want oil derricks off their shorelines. Oil is NOT the future, alternatives are.

It is not the responsibility of the government to bail us out of this mess, it is up to us to react to it as best we can. Responsibility and accountability and all that... And doesn't this wah-wah-wah from the population smack of selfishness and socialism? We don't need energy welfare now, do we?
