American Thinker: Top 10 reasons to blame Democrats for soaring gasoline prices

Quote:
A New York Times article, dated May 18, 2001, explained:

"President Bush began an intensive effort today to sell his plan for developing new sources of energy to Congress and the American people, arguing that the country had a future of 'energy abundance if it could break free of the traditional antagonism between energy producers and environmental advocates.

Mr. Bush's plea for a new dialogue came as his administration published the report of an energy task force containing scores of specific proposals... for finding new sources of power and encouraging a range of new energy technologies."

[The Bush plan] "mentions about a dozen areas including land-use restrictions in the Rockies, lease stipulations on offshore areas attractive to oil companies, the vetting of locations for nuclear plants, environmental reviews to upgrade power plants and refineries that could be streamlined or eliminated to help industry find more oil and gas and produce more electricity and gasoline."
The dems/libs should be ashamed and pay dearly for the damage their obstructionist policies have cost the US.

To solely blame Dems is a bit of a streach. Bush wasn't (isn't) a strong enough leader to push his ideas across. (Think Reagan - O' Niel).

Funny how you can blame an entire group of people who share a certain philosophy. Blame your dang congressmen. Blame the ones that didn't vote for a congressman. Blame the idiots who are paranoid of nuclear energy. But to make sweeping remarks about people who believe in a certain type of philosophy? Doesn't make you any brighter than the idiots that caused this.

how naive of the OP to think that a bunch of tree hugging libs have halted the multi billion dollar oil industry. Please explain how these huge corporations want to see gasoline plummet to $1 a gallon again.

I'll take a stab at of few of the reeasons listed"

10) ANWR : well if Clinton did Veto the bill to drill in ANWR how come the Republican controlled Congress at the time not over ride it?

9) Coastal Drilling : most of the Gulf of Mexico already drills save for Florida. We have environmental concerns since tourism is our number industry here that a oil spill will devestate. Biggest opponent to it? None other than the President's own brother Governor Jeb Bush.

8) alternative fuels : arguement here is corn based ethanol which I tend to agree that it is driving up the cost of food. Ethanol can be made from other things besides food. However I'm sure the farmers won't be to happy about that since they are making millions while recieving farm subsidies. Go yell at the Farm Lobbyists.

7) Nuclear power: well Three Mile Island scared the nation away from that. We have 103 plants in the US now go find someplace in the US where people don't mind having it in their own backyard. They called NIMBYs and they come in every political stripe.

6)Coal : pollution again Nimbys but we should increase it's use.

5)Refinery Capacity : ask Big Oil about that one. At the Congressional testimony all the Oil executives said the highest refinery capacity they were operating at was 85%. Why?
Increase capacity means more supple which means? Lower gas prices and less profits.

4) reduced competition : well these mergers happened during Clinton's presidency. Sorry I didn't know he was also head of a Wall Street firm that controls Mergers & Acquisitions from happening in the free market.

3)Kyoto treaty : well the US never signed it saw how is this the Dems fault?

2) Speculation : well isn't that part of what the commodities market do? Don't know much about the bill Clinton signed to comment. What about the increased demand for Oil from China & India though?

1) defeat of Bush's energy policy in 2001 : don't remember it but he still had a Republican Congress at the time why didn't they pass it?

The main reason they have blame is that they resisted drililng here and then bitched about the saudis not suppling enough. They investigate electrical blackouts while france supplies 78% of their electricity from nuclear while they forced nuclear out in the 70's. They ahve always perpetuated the old there is plenty of oil for yuears and years to block any effective energy plan toher than getting more miles per gallon in vehciles. They have done nothing towards use of coal and shell oil. In Gore's book he along ago said that the answewr was to raise oil prives to stop peoles use and that seems the demcrats plan still.hen there start to be long lines at much higher prives they will be hiding from the rioting crowds.Remeber that to pass many bills it takes getting thru blockage attenpts to closure and then 60 votes in the senate.

I don't know about Texas but both Florida & California won't even think of the idea of off-shore drilling again. It won't happen

happ-Do those colorful towers still exist off the coast in Long Beach and are they still drilling there? California has problems not only with tourism objections but a more real concern with earthquake damage. If a nuclear plant or oil refinery caused damage reulting from an earthquake, the people would question them being built in the first place.
