Then why are guys running around topless?
What's the difference if it's men or women?
Seriously, why is this sexually determined?

Uhh..., because women have well defined mammary glands and men don't!

The news showed families with little kids watching. People are just so messed up.
Was this naked gas protest in Oregon, like many weird things. There is a naked bike race here in Portland once a year. There is a nudity law here or so I have been told. One can be nude in public here as long as they are not trying to sexually entice someone.

Default Double standard?

We (the west) seem to generally view the burqa, chador, hijab etc. as unreasonably oppressive to women, but these are considered appropriate for some standards of decorum. Of course there are women who don't like this type of clothing but there are also many who feel comfortable in the level of modesty they afford.

Is our condemnation of public nudity/toplessness really that different? It's easy to defend a level of exposure once we are used to it. Even 50 years ago it would have been shocking to see a man walking around in khaki shorts, t-shirt and a bare head. A woman in slacks or jeans would have left onlookers apoplectic.
