That shadowy, vast right-wing conspiracy in the Ivy League has done it again. Economists at Harvard have found a link between negative media coverage of Iraq and an emboldening of insurgents.
Hot Air has more:
Caveats aplenty — the data didn’t include Baghdad, there’s no way to tell if attacks increased because of the rhetoric or were just re-timed to coincide with it — but to no one’s surprise except possibly the left’s, “U.S. out of Iraq” does indeed create an incentive for jihadis to try to push the U.S. out of Iraq.
Allahpundit wonders if the media will report on "this rather media-unfriendly finding" or if it creates an "incentive for the press to at least include more pro-war voices in its coverage?"
I'd probably answer no on both counts. After all MRC/NB's Rich Noyes has found that good news in Iraq usually equates to less news coverage of Iraq overall. A study that runs counter to the media's preferred template will not get the time of day. Plus between Eliot Spitzer and the ongoing Democratic presidential primary race, the media have all but forsaken anything of substance in Iraq reporting. If the American news media has an effect on the terrorists, what about the outspoken anti-war politicians in Congress?
You left out the most important selection: should Bush & Cheney be impeached/prosecuted/imprisoned for treason [lying to Americans about a war that should have never occurred & resulting in the death of over 4000 American personnel?].
Democrat Leaders talking about Saddam and his Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs).

I've noticed that often lately. Guess he's got a woody for dems or something.
Maybe the whole problem in Iraq is that myopic, lie-believing, pro-war zealots have been too timid in support of this, their latest noble enterprise.
After all, if a few Dems in Congress saying that the war was a bad idea, that gee, things are going so much more poorly in Iraq than what we were promised, or asking what the he!! has been accomplished in Iraq that was worth four thousand lives and three trillion dollars, the terrible Jihadists are emboldened by it, would it not stand to reason also that more -- much more -- war cheerleading and extolling of the great virtues inherent in reducing a proud country to rubble, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths among its population (and turning millions more into refugees), while installing an ineffective and unpopular puppet government and destabilizing the entire region would cause the terrible Jihadists to be chastened?
Looks to me like it's these pro-war right-wingers who are entirely to blame for this on-going debacle no matter how you slice it...
I'm with you PCM, but I don't think the US media has fairly reported the war and is shaping opinions (and emboldened jerks in Iraq) with their manipulative reporting.
A bit more of a comprehesive overview from a rather neutral publication:
And the "media" is not a "lefty" or a "righty" media...they are a STATIST media. That is, they're basically stenographers of whatever the government wishes the populace to believe.
This is why, when the winds of government lean a bit left, you and your like cry about the "left wing" media, and, when government leans a bit right, the other side screams "evil corporate" media.

These days, the Leftist media finds it hard to put any story in the news about Iraq.
Good news in Iraq translates to no news in the Leftist news media.
