This is tragic. Nothing could be more sad than the loss of life over a material object. My heart goes out to the family as well as my prayers.

It's sad that this happened but even more sad that the kid didn't have enough sense to avoid it.
The family will probably get money out of the situation after a lawyer argues that the two fences weren't built high enough. That's sad.

This "kid" was 17 freakin' years old. Old enough to join the Army and go to iraq. An 8 yr old knows not to scale two 6ft fences and go underneath a rollercoaster.

As Carlos Mencia would say.. De De Deeee

I would have to side with the park on this one. Why people dont have personal responsibility. Our lack of a sense of right and wrong ends up with lavels of "hot coffee is served hot" I sure if the theme park posted a "climbing this fence can lead to decapitation" he would have known better. I'm saddened for the family and their loss but it was not the parks fault. I have to wonder what he was taught to think a $20 hat was so valuable. For the young girl that lost her leg I am in full support of the family and think the park should be held deeply liable for that accident.
As a rule we should teach our kids what to value, that work will prevail, that honesty is a virtue, and one should earn their money not sue for it. Perhaps we could have some standards long since lost.
May the family learn to live with the void in their life.

Too damn bad that with the rep you have earned so far that you would debase yourself to the level of a troll with this statement.

There are two versions of the story out now. One says he jumped the fences to get his hat; the other says he and his cousin jumped it to take a short cut. Either way it was stupid.
