My choice would be America The Beautiful but there are others too including God Bless America that are great songs. What do you think?
Are you kidding me? The Star Spangled Banner should ALWAYS be our national anthem. This is just plain silly. You dont see other countrys changing their national anthems. The Star Spangled Banner is the most inspiring song ever.
As we sat and watched the fireworks at Centennial Oympic Park tonight, the thought came into my mind that we really should make an effort to retire the Star Spangled Banner as the National Anthem and replace it with something that better describes America and is not hard to sing or remember the words to.

If blasphemy described it best I would use that word.....That hardly describes it

Where is your sense of national pride? I mean really, change the national anthem because its "hard to sing" and you cant "remember the words"? You have GOT to be kidding me. NO WAY WILL I EVER GO FOR CHANGING OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!!
Since it has only been the national anthem since 1931, I can see why people might think it be acceptable change, since it has precedence, but I know the words to three verses, so I'm good.
I agree. The Song is mainly about our flag, but says nothing about the people, the country, values etc...I never thought it was the best choice. I vote for America the Beautiful, if only because I can't think of another good one at the moment
but it is about the people, the flag represents the people. It represents all of the trials and tribulations we have gone through as one people.

What difference does it make how many times a person says the pledge of allegiance? If you feel the need not to say it at all, or every day, or without the word 'god' then dont do it. And dont have your children do it. Some of us, including myself, think children should be saying it every day in the morning at school.
And NO, 'under god' should NOT be removed. What should be removed, is all of those that do not want to say it. Or they can remove those two words themselves.
Excuse me. Because I'm not comfortable with saying xian prayers, I should be removed? Please tell me that this was not intentional.
Do you want us dead or something? Do you really feel that we should be exterminated because we don't believe as you do?
"Under God" was added in the 50s, not as it was written.
How would you feel if you wrote something and it was hijacked for something else?

Well, the last line does talk about the "land of the free, home of the brave", so I stand corrected on that I'm just more moved by other patriotic songs than the Star Spangled Banner. (America the Beautiful, God Bless America etc...) Actually, I like the song a lot, (It is really unique) but for a national Anthem, I just happen to prefer others. It's a musical thing, and in the end, pretty minor.
Reading these posts have actually made me see the anthem from different angles than I would have thought otherwise. But I'm stunned at the angry responses on this thread. I don't get how suggesting another patriotic song makes one unpatriotic. kevk didn't say that America sucks, just that he has a preference for a different song...at least that's how I read it. If I missed something he said, someone please point that out.
I don't see the crime in having a different opinion on a song
