Millions Were Spent To Hype Bush's Tax Rebate Plan To Save America. That $300 Or $1,200 Might Pay For A Few Tanks Of Gas Or Fixing An Appliance. Reminds Me Of What The Charities Were Told - Teach A Man To Fish, Feed Him For A Lifetime, Feeding Him A Fish Only Lasts For A Day - The Same Thing Bush Is Doing, Only Our 'fish' Is A Minnow.

Didn't work on me. Ours went into savings. Since we have to claim it next year as income, I'll probably use it to pay taxes

I used mine to buy gardening supplies, seeds, fertilizer, and extra bulk grains, just like I said I would.

I might be wrong, but I think Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were both in favor of this legislation as well.

In any event, I agree with you about this 'rebate' in principal, because it really isn't a rebate. It's welfare. Recipients included people who didn't earn money. Also, the rebate was scaled back once you earned a certain earnings threshold. In other words, people who dared earn a high amount of $$ were punished, and those who earned nothing received a rebate. Bush and congress got this backwards. Of course, if the marginal tax rates were reduced even further from the cuts of 01 and 03, then such rebates would not be necessary.

I've given each of numerous Democratic candidates a scoop of that marvelous green tonic sent by Chimpy. Up yours Bush.

Bush's tax rebate is just another noisy gimmick. After wrecking our economy for 7-8 years (decimated dollar, housing bubble, mortgage mess, rampant speculation in oil markets that are clobbering everyone, a credit meltdown, deficit spending in amounts unheard of, tax cuts during a time of war) and all the rest of the horror he's caused, he comes up with this election-year gimmick as if to say "see, we really do care about you." Hah! Bend over people. This gimmick is designed to do one thing, that being to keep consumer spending at a level sufficient enough to push the coming economic disaster downstream to the next president, who will have to face the full brunt of the worst economic times since the Great Depression, maybe worse.

Aren't you glad that no Democrats supported it? Otherwise, you'd sound foolish with your proctologic partisanship.

Heck, it passed 380-30 in the House....

Congress sends economic aid plan to Bush with tax rebates for many; Bush signals approval / nwi.com (http://www.thetimesonline.com/articles/2008/02/07/updates/breaking_news/doc47ababf98d6e5262398879.txt - broken link)

I haven't even gotten mine yet... but when I do, it's going into my savings. Bush tried to buy my affections about 6-7 years ago if I recall correctly, didn't work that time, won't work this time, yea I know the democrats went along with it, but they can't help themselves, giving money away is in their DNA, right? (oops I've been reading to many posts from those angry conservatives!)

So, basically we are borrowing money from China, so that the government can give us checks so that we can go buy stuff that is made in China !

Wow, this is pure genius!

When you put it that way.....maybe we need to elect a Chinese president b/c they are obviously way smarter than any of our American politicians. They are winning on both sides of the coin

They are pretty clever, but they're counting on us to spend the checks and if we put them in the bank, then they won't be getting what they want. We just have to prove them wrong and show that the American people aren't quite as dumb as they think we are. I hope.
