If it weren't for trial lawyers and environmentalists, they'd rank number one on everybody's list of the 'best job-killing entities in America.

In the case of teachers their union is protecting them from the government ?

Yeah, we don't need those unions.

We can all just work for $7.25 an hour with no bennies. Asking for anything more than that is just plain greedy ya know.

The public service unions are the problem. Why would you need to organize if you're working for the government? There's a difference between working for a company that is only interested in making a profit and working for the government which is not about making a profit. The government doesn't employ people to make a profit. There's no need for a public service union. In fact it goes against common sense to allow such a thing. It encourages people to take advantage of the government's ability to raise taxes, and to think of the government as being greedy and insensitive when it says it can't afford to pay more. Of course the government can pay more. Because it can raise taxes. So the government can never say there's no more money.

As long as the government has the ability to raise taxes, the public service unions will take advantage of it. The public service unions are more powerful than the government. They dictate to the government what they should get paid and the government has to give it to them or they will go on strike. Look at the situation in Wisconsin and you can see how powerful they are. They can shut down the government. And they're not there to protest their working conditions. And the government doesn't use child labor. So what are they protesting? No one is saying they created the budget shortfall. But there is a budget shortfall, and this time the government is saying they won't raise taxes.

I'm not against raising taxes if it's necessary, but not so that the unions can continue to feed at the public trough. So what are the protesters worried about? They're worried about losing the lifestyle that they've become accustomed to. Well, I can understand that. That's why I wouldn't cut any wages or benefits that they they have gained up to now. But the idea that they can collectively walk out and go on strike unless they get their way, that they can hold the government hostage, that they can't get fired, that they're not accountable to anyone - that has to end.

As the old saying goes you can fool some of the people some of the time but you cant fool all of the people all of the time! In the real working mans world union has become synonomous with lazy, slacker, poor quality and expensive! The unions are growing in government sector jobs, which only strengthens the incestous relationship between the unions and the big government Democrat party!
you just described a corporation which republicans look out for...

so which is better?

seems to me we're getting f-ed on both ends... and not in a good way
