You're stopping the fertilized EGG (not embryo) from implanting.

IUDs and other forms of contraception work in exactly the same manner... why are they contraception and Plan B isn't?

I looked it up.

IUDs, regular birth control pills, and Plan B can all prevent pregnancy by stopping a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine lining.
