I just saw a great commercial on TV and then followed-up by visiting the advertised website. This fellow has a great video on his site, the video appears to be a good and understandable lecture on the oil crisis the US faces.

I'm glad to see money being invested in other options.

T. Boone Pickens (http://www.famoustexans.com/boonepickens.htm - broken link) was a corporate raider.
He was responsible for the downfall of Gulf Oil.
He's in it all for himself. Might want to research him a bit.

His isn't unique, without reposting a bunch of links I've already posted multiple times, we have extensive efforts underway in the areas of solar electric power in homes, wind power, genetic alterations producing fuel from biomass and hydro. In addition, substantial progress has been made concerning battery power for vehicles, with plug in an attainable near term goal.

I like the idea, and its not something that would take 30 years to implement either like hydrogen would. I think we need a combination of options, and this is a good starting point.

Pickens said natural gas is abundant? I don't get how natural gas is abundant since like oil it has also gone up tremendously from the last year, and it's not even winter time.

Thats why its a 2-part plan. Move what is currently powered by natural gas over to wind, and then move automobiles over to natural gas. I think natural gas is a great "interim" fuel to bridge the gap between oil and a true next-generation fuel.

Whether he is in it to make more money for himself or he is in it for the good of the country I don't really care. If it means that we dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil and he makes a few hundred million dollars, then so be it...

Natural gas is fairly abundant, but pipelines are not always available to move it from where it is to where it's needed. Colorado has a LOT of natgas but movement is constrained by current pipeline capacity. That will change as Kinder Morgan and other pipeliners bring new capacity on line in next couple of years, like the Rockies Express pipeline, part of which is now open. Natgas is used in lots of forklifts and many natgas utilities power their small vehicle fleets with natgas. Not a stretch at all to see more cars use this. Pickens is an oil man and I'm sure he has a motive in there somewhere.
