The judge, Navy Capt. Keith Allred, said the prosecution cannot use a series of interrogations at the Bagram air base and Panshir, Afghanistan, because of the "highly coercive environments and conditions under which they were made." Gitmo judge: No 'highly coercive' evidence - Guantanamo - MSNBC.com
Thankfully, there are some people in this country that still stand up for the rights and basic human rights enshrined in our Constitutional and over 200 years of American jurisprudence. This is Exhibit A as to why we need unelected judges!
About a year ago or so there were a bunch of news items clustered together regarding the confessions of those at Guantanamo Bay. The confessions were like "Yes, I'm responsible for Saddam's WMD program", "Yes, I wrote the book on flying planes into buildings", and (why not?) "Yes, I kidnapped Lindbergh's baby". The media hyped these as clear evidence of guilt and yet the public yawned, laughed nervously and then ultimately rejected them because they were lies. These "facts" were clearly lies obtained through torture.
That these confessions cannot now be used as "evidence" is the proper course of action. But will this justice be too little too late?
