Okay, I'm going to be a naive idealist, and say this is the most important election since Reagan's landslide in 1980, though of course trying to do that is admittedly silly.

Or maybe 2000 was slightly more important an election. But I do think we are overdue for the "Next Great Leader" to emerge and inspire Americans. Americans desperately need an iconic figure, they need to have something to believe in.

Great Presidents of the 20th century: Roosevelt, Wilson, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Reagan, and maybe an honorable mention to Clinton.

Since everyone has their own view of what contitutes "great" I'll go with an "expert" opinion, the Federalist Society.

Of our more recent leaders, they have Reagan as a "near great", Johnson and Kennedy as "above average", Bush Sr and Clinton as "average", and Ford, Carter and Nixon as "below average".

Eisenhower, Kennedy and Reagan were decent.

Woodrow Wilson was the biggest idiot ever... at least he showed his regrets on allowing the Federal Reserve System to happen.

FDR knew about Pearl Harbor before it happened allowed it to happen. Something like 87% of the American People were against entering WWII before Pearl Harbor and then right after Pearl Harbor 1 million men signed up for the military. This was all for FDR's buddies in the Central Bank.

The central bank makes a lot of money off of war, why do you think Vietnam lasted so long and why do you think we're in Iraq?

These are the best ones, but each has some little flaws but one that I know of.

Teddy, built the panama canal but failed to get a land deal with columbia to get clear title to it. Promised not to run a second term and came back in 4 years to split the vote and lose to wilson.

FDR, great but power hungry, should of stopped at 2 terms, tried to stack the supreme court.

Eisenhower, rock steady guy but somewhat stagnet. Kinda got us down the wrong road with relations in cuba and central america. (united fruit thing)

Kennedy, like clinton, could not keep his pecker in his pocket. I dont like playboy presidents, should be true to your wife and country. Cheated on Jackie, come on. He came from bootlegger money and bought the election with mob help in chicago. He did an excellent job with the cuban missile crisis, nixon might of got us nuked if he won in 1960. So it worked out, but for LBJ getting in there after he got shot.

Reagan, hard to not like him, but the iran contra thing was a scandal, and the savings and loan failures could of been prevented under his watch. His accomplishments far outweigh both the above.

Clinton, never saw a guy that enjoyed being president like Bill did, he let it all run off his back. He loved the press and giving long winded speeches and they loved him. But that cigar got him in trouble and prevented Al Gore from winning in 2000. A MAJOR BLUNDER that altered the coarse of history.

That leaves Wilson, cant think of anything bad about him, kept us out of WW1 as long as possible. Won two terms, economy did well under his watch. Anyone got any dirt on Wilson ? The best has to be either Wilson or Reagan.
