Oh that is not true. Plenty of conservative intellectuals around, but I suspect you disdain them and avoid reading them. And there are plenty of liberals who see things in black and white. Read some of your stuff if you doubt that.

I suspect the answer is that academics are often those of a liberal persuasion who did not want a corporate career but were not going to work with their hands. Neither cop nor investment banker was an option, hence academia.

I never was and never will be a neo liberal. modern liberalism is a perversion of the very ideal of classically liberal philosophy. it's the embrace of the collective body over the individual. it's statism. when individual liberty is sacrificed for the "greater" good, the people redistributing the "good" (government bureaucrats) end up profiting at the expense of productive individuals and a moral hazard of subsidizing poor behavior/choices/actions of people develops. why work when the government is willing to steal from those who do to pay for those that don't?

one thing I have noticed is the decrease in the standards of living of Americans as the federal bureaucracy has expanded it's powers over us. It is only due to the technological advances put forth by free men that have kept us from seeing a real fall in wealth and prosperity of this nation. Generally speaking, the more money government steals from it's citizens and spends for the "greater" good, the worse performance tends to get. Public education is a perfect example.
