As the 2 wars grind on [re-enter Afghanistan] the question is: How are all the veterans going to be treated [medical & in many cases mental problems] for years? Are we going to compensate the families of all the war dead? I believe the handling of the war coupled with totally inadequate preparation for the wounded [ie Walter Reed Hospital scandal] will be addressed in Congress next year.

The American government will need to care for these service personnel for decades. Do we have the resources for these military & their families? Why don't we have the resources?

Any other opinions?

This is one of the horrible tragedies of this unending war that no one wants to examine. These are real human beings whose lives have been torn apart, whose families have been plunged into poverty, and whose remaining life will be spent in struggle and pain. People keep talking about how they support our brave troops but simply ignore what is being done to them when they return from the war. And if we have any hope at all of them receiving the respect and care they deserve then for heaven's sake take the time to actually examine the record. McCain, who claims to be the soldier's friend, has only a 20% positive voting record on things that will help the those soldiers. Do people even realize that when Fort Huachuca (located in the Senator's own state of Arizona) asked elected officials to come and see their Warriors in Transistion program which is struggling to provide help to returning soliders, many other elected officials came....but NOT John McCain..right in his own backyard. He will vote trillions of dollars to fight a war that kills and disables our brave soldiers but pennies for their health care and aid if they live to return from the war. His hypocrisy in this matter is one of the first things that turned me against him and one of the main reasons that I believe those who actually care about the human beings who are fighting under our flag should not ever support McCain.

If we look too closely we will find out we are using weapons we are not suppose to ...DU... We have exposed many of our own to problems that will be with them for the rest of their life, and in some cases that will be shorter than it should. I feel for our soldiers that have been deployed around the world to do our dirty work and then are given medical discharges because we dont want the burden of what we caused. It is a shame born by the nation and until our officials are held accountable for their decisions it will continue.
If you go to work and fail to do your job right you are held accountable. Why do we not hold politicians to the same standard?
