I was reading a Yahoo! News story and this ad on the side was talking about a 25 cent grocery bag tax for Californians. But I've never heard of this before and it was saying to vote no on it or tell our legislator that we don't want it. Does anyone know what it is? It basically implied that we would pick up the tab for grocery bags. But does that apply if we use re-usable bags? Does it apply to paper or plastic or both? I have canvas shopping bags that I use so would the tax apply to me? Can someone explain this proposed law/bill to me so I can decide how to vote. Are we even voting on this at all or is it a legislative thing?

I haven't heard of it but then the state passes bills everyday that we no nothing about until it affects us, I'm sure if you use your own bags you won't be taxed, if you can find the bill number you can look it up on the states government site, you can look it up without it but it's a little harder to do, I may try it later at work.

All states should just switch to bio-degradable bags such as those made by DIAMANT corporation. Check out the DIAAF stock symbol. This company is going to explode.

Or we could just skip using plastic bags entirely and eat at Micky D's everyday.

Escaped from the Peoples Republic of California a year and a half ago. One of the top three best decisions that I ever made.

It's beginning to sound like anybody whose an American citizen should leave that sinking ship. Ahhnold refuses to admit that the sanctuary known as LA is a major cause of the gaping financial wound in California's budget. The same can be said for my once great state of Illinois.

In my opinion using reusable bags is a good idea, the land fills are covered in these plastic bags, the reusable bags are cheap and large with strong handles, it only makes sense.

They just passed a bill here in Washington for a .20 cent charge on plastic bags. It goes into effect January, 2009. I believe if you bring your own bag you are OK.
