The purpose of this post is to question questionable policy. There is at least apocryphal evidence that bin Laden had said that simply bringing down two skyscrapers was not the intent of the attack. The intent was to incite "the infidels of America" to take up a new crusade that would bleed them dry in economic expenditures. We stand at the threshold of major domestic crises, yet we're going to spend 2 trillion dollars on a "war on terror"? There's nothing to win and no way to win it. Look like we're taking the bait. Bin Laden wins.
Sheesh! Ain't that the truth! He's doing to us what Reagan did to the Soviet Union!
It is money well spent Aleast it has an intended purpose unlike Welfare, etc
I must say you are correct. I would much rather spend it on War than the welfare bums. Everyone cries about the cost. What about the BUMMS that live off our tax money here I don't see the liberals complaining about those LEACHES.

This is at least a more debatable subject.
However, to the contrary, Bin laden is actually quoted as calling America "a paper tiger" and his strategy was to confront the U.S. knowing that we would pull out at the sign of a tough fight, the U.S. in his opinion being morally weak. This he gathered after the "black hawk down" troubles in Somalia when Clinton pulled out. He would bleed us dry politically, not financially, knowing that the U.S. could not stomach a fight. This is not "acocryphal evidence" but actual testimony.
Bin Laden indeed wins.

His Taliban buddies were trained well by the CIA, they saw the Soviets turn tail. Only figures they'd expect us to do the same.
