Well we don't know the reasoning behind them not competing do we....I mean 100% and not the world some of us would like to make it out to be...Or as others might call it the truth.
It is a different thread but in context one must say that calling an athlete a world class athlete a coward because he won't compete. World class has nothing to do with having a weakness that can be exploited. In short calling him a coward was a cheap shot unless thier is evidence he was afraid to compete because he feared competition.
No I agree, I have no idea what that guys situation was so who am I to say? But plenty of others have opinions all the time w/out getting all the facts or even some of the facts.
"The Iranian National Olympic Committee (INOC) said earlier Saturday that there would be no issue with Alirezaei attending the competition. “Alirezaei swims in lane one and the representative of the Zionist regime (Israel) in lane seven, so they will not face each other,” INOC secretary Ali Kafashian told the ISNA news agency prior to the race."
"Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency said that Alirezaei pulled out because of illness."
Well considering it is published in the Jerusalem Post, one has to wonder how objective the report is. There just might be more to it and until I read about it in a more mainstream media source, I shall remains skeptical.

Interesting. I'm visiting Branson next month for the first time in my life.
None of which ignorant hyperbole has the slightest relevance to the OP, or the obnoxious and genocidal hatred which Iranians and other muslim fundamentalists display, in word and deed, for Israel and the jewish people.
Back to the point: that an athlete would permit his country's racism to trump the ideal of Olympic competition, thus underscoring the message that racial and political hatred is indeed stronger than sportsmanship, is the height of moral ugliness --- and an unmitigated insult to the Olympic ideal.
LOL
Notice I didn't defend the Iranian's position, and I was responding to the liberal RINO's baiting for challengers of Israel so my jab at fake Christians and the Bill Kristols of the world, aka "hyperbole", seemed well placed
Also interesting that the Iranian is automatically labeled as scum without knowing if he was under strict orders for fear of death to not compete. If there were indeed no threats to his well-being, then I would stand corrected. Unfortunately, we'll never really know the details.
Now you may proceed with your blind love and endless want for taxpayer subsidies to your socialist utopia in the middle east.

A "world class" athlete would compete regardless of the instances. This man didn't compete because of his hatred of Jews and don't think for one second that he didn't know he would be competing against an Israeli. If the Iranian government pressured him to not compete, well I guess I can understand and will not call him a coward, but I will call the Iranian government cowards.

Who are the Baldknobbers?
The Baldknobbers are one of the original music shows that started back in the 1960s. When visiting the area, it is definitely one of the shows that you will want to see. Aside from good musical entertainment, the comedy is really hilarious. This show, and the Jim Stafford show are the two that we always take family and friends to who are visiting the area.
Enjoy your stay.
ETA: A "bald knob" in this area is described as a large hill devoid of trees, thus giving it a "bald" appearance, rather like a bald headed man with a fringe of hair around the perimeter of his head. FYI

So this Iranian who could've easily been brainwashed since birth on the Jews or threatened with death for competing (proving otherwise is impossible, remember what Saddam and sons did to Iraqi soccer team members who lost?) is to be despised, but...refusing to compete with the Soviets in Moscow back in 1980 Olympics is A-OK? How interesting and one sided.

Man, some of you will go to great lengths trying to defend someone who exhibits racist behavior (unless that person is white of course).
In any event, AS I SAID IN MY PRIOR POST,
Quote:

Us refusing to compete against the Soviets was also cowardice. Thank you Jimmy Carter.
