"I hope you know that there are many Cubans, and others, who are ready to rebuild that island from the first stone onward. There are plenty of people with the brains and the means to do it."

i know there are and i hope you are right. i hear about all the ingenuity of using washing machines as fans, creating amphibious vehicles to drive to florida, inventing organic farming techniques and natural pesticides because thats all they have to work with. im just afraid a people used to corruption and doing things "on the side" wont be able to keep the government from being corrupt to allow the smart people on the island to thrive.

"The only thing I never understood is why the USA didn't just blast the guy back in the 60's. Kennedy screwed up everything. He chickened out and here we are now and no other president has ever wanted to touch Cuba."

well because we almost had a nuclear armageddon

i dont agree with the war either and how we're going broke paying for it.

********* for being a voice of reason =P
your arguements are more reasonable than most people in this forum.
i wish i knew more people like you down here.

Default Castro's Death Party

I AM NOT IN AGREEMENT WITH WHAT THE COUNTY COMMISIONER "TOMAS REGALADO"IN MIAMI HAS SUGESTED FOR A DEATH PARTY.I THINK IT SHOULD HAD BEEN NAMED " A CELEBRATION TO AN END OF AN ERA, THE FIDEL CASTRO ERA" ( I HOPE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ON SUPERBOWL WEEKEND SINCE THE ORANGE BOWL IS TAKEN ).A NEW ERA WILL BEGIN (THE POST F.C. ERA) AND ONLY GOD KNOWS HOW IT WILL BE!! I WONDER IF THERE WERE CELEBRATIONS WHEN HITLER,MUSSOLINI,FRANCO,TRUJILLO,DUVALLIER,SOMOZA, PERON AND OTHER DICTATORS/OPPRESSORS DIED ? DOES ANY ONE CELEBRATE THE DEATH OF ALL THE SOLDIERS THAT DIE IN COMBAT ei.THE JAPANESE,AFRICANS,HINDUS,EUROPEANS,RUSSIANS,AMERIC ANS,ETC. BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ENEMIES ? I'M SURE DEEP IN OUR HEARTS no! WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT SOME OF US GET SO ANGRY THAT THE FIRST THING TO COME OUT IS THE WISH OF DEATH !!!! AND IS WRONG .IT'S ONLY OF HUMAN NATURE AND EXPRESSION. PERSONALLY I THINK CASTRO HAS BEEN DEAD FOR SOME TIME BUT IS NOT ADVANTAGEOUS TO ANOUNCE IT YET, SO THE MORE TIME THEY CAN "BUY" THE BETTER. WHEN THEY CAN'T HOLD THE NEWS ANY LONGER THEY WILL BRING OUT A POOR MAN THAT HAS BEEN SELECTED/STARVED,HOLLYWOOD/PLASTIC SURGERY MAKE OVER TO BE HIS COPY FOR SHOW IN ORDER TO CONTINUE IN " BUSINESS AS USUAL MODE" FOR AS LONG AS THEY CAN.I WONDER WHY CHAVEZ HAS TO TELL THE WORLD THE NEWS ABOUT CASTRO'S HEATH,AND DRS. IN SPAIN DO THE SAME, WHY CAN'T CUBA DO IT ? NOT CAPABLE TO CONTINUE THE BIG LIE ? LIKE THE SAYING GOES IN SPANISH "IN A TIGHTLY CLOSED MOUTH FLYS CAN NOT ENTER"( EN BOCA CERRADA NO ENTRAN MOSCAS ) ssooooooooo....... DO NOT WISH DEATH ON ANY ONE JUST WISH FOR AN END TO A TERRIBLE ERA WITH PEACE,LOVE,COMPASSION AND RECONCILIATION AMONG ALL. THANK'S TO THE FORUM FOR ALLOWING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN OUR UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA AND NOT TAKING IT FOR GRANTED! GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure there is going to be a spillover of celebrations on the streets. Though, I'm glad the city has taken measures to have the majority in a contained area - at least, it's some sort of control.
What worries me is not so much this expected event... but the unexpected. I sure hope the City's "hush-hush" plans, in case of any chaos, are somewhat organized.
Yes, Kennedy payed/trained/backed their Cuban friends but later left them stranded later to be slaughtered like pigs in the "Bay of Pigs invasion...", though Russia - Cuba's big chummy brother/sugar daddy or whatever - was involved at the time and Kennedy was probably caught in-between a rock & a hard spot and wanted to prevent the U.S. from going into a nuclear war. I'm almost positive that some accord was signed at the time, that none of us know...yet - and probably lasted while Castro still breathed. In time, I'm sure the mystery will come out. Only time will tell...

" A CELEBRATION TO AN END OF AN ERA, THE FIDEL CASTRO ERA"

Well said...and that is what it's really all about - end of the "Fidelista regime" which in my opinion is not even communism. I've met diehard communists and socialists from Spain and Italy that are not with Fidel's egotistical invention of what he calls communism - only the best for his inner circle goons/family members drinking $750 bottles of wine and caviar, eating off porcelain china dinnerware, lead crystal glasses stolen from the ones that left or he killed, going to country clubs living the high llife?? and all the while the rest of his people are put in the back burner and thought of like cattle to herd and they are like, "what, who, they need whatttt...? Ohh...just throw them some hay for now, to keep their traps shut."
As liars that they have always been, I too believe he's long gone...and plans have been taking place over there - safeguarding themselves financially, getaways or maybe even doing paperwork to transfer it to Venzuela as a colony...though, knowing the Cubans I don't think they will put up with someone none-Cuban. It's such ashame that even his followers over there or even here, cannot see or know what's really going on with it's leader & just left wondering. But what's to be expected? That's the way they are - sneaky devils.

And yes...God bless the U.S.A!!!!!!! for it's freedom of speech.
Most would have even been long gone already, for speaking anything against Castro or any dictator at all.

Alberto, since when are the Cubans in Cuba informed about anything that the gov't doesn't want them to "think" about? The population is spoon-fed at the regime's convenience and all is strategically master planned. Cubans probably don't even know what Chavez or Spain have said. And good ole Chavez, Castro's prodigy and Castro wanna be, well I hope he "accidentally" gets thrown into a pot of burning Venezuelan oil so he can fry at the highest temperature.
You know, I wouldn't kill a fly but these guys are amoebas. They are the lowest form of life on this planet.
We do take an awful lot for granted in this country and we never really sit back and question how lucky we are.

Lulu, I wish it would have been Communism, compared to what it has been.

"You know, it's nice to know there is a Hell and that Fidel has a condo in front of the lava pit waiting for him. He is going to Hell so fast, you might think he is riding a Bullet Train!! "

...as quoted a few posts back

Here's a question for all the Christian men & women on the forum. Suppose while on his deathbed, Fidel Castro repents of his sin and accepts Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior--won't he go to heaven? For all you Cuban Christians...wouldn't you want him to be saved? Would it not be unlike the conversion of Saul while on the road to Damascus?

The Related Group is a company built by Jorge Perez (A CUBAN) he is a developer with Miami Roots that owns more real estate than Donald Trump. His business is nationally & internationally.

Northwestern Meats is a very large meat wholesaler owned by Elpidio Nunez (A CUBAN) with one location in Miami & one even larger location in Puerto Rico distributing to a national & international market.

Arturo Torres (A CUBAN) recently deceased made millions running franchises of Taco Bell & Pizza Hut in Europe & the Caribbean

The Bacardi Family is not rich only due to Cubans. Internationally people from all over the enjoy Bacardi Products.

Besides this we have many many Cubans worldwide that are earning a living, thanks to their talent & hardwork. People in the government, entertainment industry, major executives at top corporations. There is no clique, its our determination & work ethic. While you were on your job doing grunt work, a Cuban was advancing & creating a big business deal over our little cups of coffee.

You know, I totally understand the envy others groups have of us.

Cubans were the catalyst that sent Miami to be an international (third world) city. The corruption and materialism of the culture, and clan-like family structure enabled what we have today. Honest and corrupt businesses succeed and fail, just like anyone else. Yet the Cuban mentality closely mirrors those of big cities like New York, Chicago, and the like which were built on corruption. Control the system and profit from it, that's the American way. Cubans came here and did the labor, but also many had extensive experience in corrupt practices and easily fit in with Miami, a classic pirate's den. After a while some get on the gravy train, some continue to work with their hands, others educate and improve, like any other group. Castro was the reason that Cubans flocked to Miami, before him they came for business and maybe vacations, some settled but many preferred the island. When Cubans were the minority, they were often known for being hard working and relatively friendly people. When the mass migration of the 60's and later the dumping of the 80's took place, Miami was forever lost. I doubt anyone envies the result of that dictator on the island, but if anyone envies the businesses created in Miami, just remember, whether by corruption or plain hard work it takes a lot of effort. As for me I would rather be somewhere that success doesn't depend on who you know but what you know.

Cubans in other parts of the country are different, as well as some of the older Cubans in Miami. Also, many of the people that came in the 80's were criminals that Castro so conveniently sent to Miami (think Scarface). This is not who you should be basing your opinion on and making these generalizations. Anyway, there are plenty of other ethnic groups in Miami and they all seem to me to be equally materialistic, so I don't think it's a Cuban thing at all, but rather a local thing. In fact, many Cubans I know are very much against showing off, because it's seen as low class. You really should visit Union City, NJ, where there is the 2nd largest Cuban population, and tell me if it's flashy.

As far as the "clan-like" family structure, that is true. But it's true of any Latin-American group, and it's not always a bad thing.

If you want to go somewhere that success depends on what you know, then buy a farm, that's the only situation I can think of where it's all about what you know. Who you know is extremely important in our society, whether they are Cuban or not, and whether you live in Miami, New York, LA, or any other city.

Oh Please. Castro is atheist and so am I if it means that I would have to forgive him because of my religious beliefs.
