In the article I found this:

"As the end of the Bush administration nears, the White House has been seeking to formalize in law and regulation some of the aggressive counterterrorism steps it has already taken in practice since the Sept. 11 attacks."

Our government has been doing this already..they are just trying to make it legal now. Maybe to avoid lawsuits after the present administration is out and can no longer claim "executive privilege" ?

As much as I find Bush/cheney the worse administration in history I find pelosi and Reid just as bad.
100% pure enablers who have not fought the fight they were elected to fight.
