EL PASO, Texas — Security is being heightened along the southern U.S. border because of a threat that warring Mexican cartels may send hit men into the United States, authorities said Monday.Law enforcement officials would not discuss specific security measures being taken at the ports of entry, along the border or in the city of El Paso, Texas.

"We received credible information that drug cartels in Mexico have given permission to hit targets on the U.S. side of the border," El Paso police spokesman Officer Chris Mears said.U.S. Customs and Border Protection Chief Officer Rick Lopez said: "CBP is on heightened alert ever since we became aware of the threats in Mexico."

U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said officials "are reinforcing the importance of vigilance."

This can be serious stuff, the cartels have been killing off many of the Mexican police officers and press reporters.

Time to help Mexican officials clean their clock.

I was watching the news and there was a hit placed on a Mexican police chief on literally his entire family. It doesn't matter if some were related only by marriage!

A city police department has "credible information" that a civilian criminal has told his hit men that it is OK to kill other criminals in the city. That is not a legitimate reason to mobilize the armed forces.

I find it odd that we can patrol the Korean border. Patrol the Egyption border. Defebnd Germany, and Japan but don't have the man power to patrol and defend our own borders. We have those demanding that we go to georgia and defend them against Russia. We are patroling the Iraqi borders but can't even manage to build a good fence. Am I the only one that see's the Irony in this? We should let the cartels know that any incursion into US terratory will result in us hunting them down and exterminating them like the rabid dogs they are. That is with or without the corrupt Gov of Mexico's help.

Government is partially defined as the entity that can legitimately use force on its citizens. Allowing criminal organizations to use force diminishes the government and the rule of Law. These cartels need to be crushed by both the Mexican and US governments for the good of the citizens and the legitimacy of the government.

Part of the "Oath of Enlistment" for the military says ".. that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic..." Although I don't think it's time to mobilize the military (and therefore voted "no"), should there be more than warnings (i.e. there actually is armed conflict proven to be instigated by the cartels), then my position would likely change.

As to the defending the borders of other nations, for the most part (Korea) we are defending against another recognized military armed force. Other countries are protecting the borders of other countries (France & Georgia for Iraq for example). That's why we have the National Guard, and Border Patrol here in America. Although the National Guard has been called up for active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And to respond to the quote above, unfortunately as long as there are drugheads here in America, there will always be those ready to step up and make money on it. Because of the liberal laws that so nicely protect criminals, the rewards far outweigh any risks by our joke of a judicial system. Hell, they can just go to San Francisco and get asylum!! Until we make it painful (and if Obama wins.. we'll be a LOT farther from that) for criminals to actually pay for their crimes, no matter who we "take out" there is a line of people more than willing to step in and make money off the American druggie society.
