Is cyber intelligence something that the tax payers should invest in? Do you see the police and military as the same entity? Do intelligence officers serve the citizens?
...many Republicans here in CD P&OC have strongly supported the maintenance of the Defense budget, and our government justifies clandestine operations and datamining for the sake of Homeland Security. At the same time Republicans have complained about a police state.
Which is it?
That said I don't know whether or not BOTH liberal and conservative parties stand for my beliefs any more.
One of the realities that people have to come to grips with is that the measures you take to protect yourself are necessarily related to the risks you face more so than your personal preferences regarding the relative invasiveness of the security measures those risks make necessary.
We have let so many into this country with no vetting or proper evaluation. Illegals, refugees, immigrants from countries openly hostile to us, etc. The fact that they're inside the borders doesn't mean they don't still hate us, are not loyal to their native lands/religions, or are suddenly "good people". Nothing wrong with keeping an eye turned inward.
I've spoken with Intelligence experts who have told me that the government does not need to spy on everyone to keep the nation safe. In fact, dragnet surveillance is counterproductive as proven by the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Speaking to the legality of the issue, if the government wants to spy on everyone then they need to amend the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to allow it. The founding fathers did not abide by general warrants but if Americans are now open to the concept then the laws need to be changed. Right now we're circumventing the Constitution with emergency measures like the USA PATRIOT Act but that's not a long term proposition. We can't maintain the war on terror forever or we'll go broke.
Intelligence is the collection of information of value, such information may not in itself be criminal. Intelligence for example may not increased chatter in relation to the US and Saudi Arabia, not a criminal act in itself but something worth investigating further.
In terms of investigation of intelligence this is where the police who also have their own on-line intelligence abilities become involved.
The Police's intelligence is more specific than the mass surveillance carried out by organisations such as the NSA and GCHQ, and police intelligence is mainly directed towards criminal behaviour such as child pornography on line, on-line fraud or counter terrorism where the police and security organisations such as the FBI or MI5 work very closely with other intelligence gathering organisations
Finally Military Intelligence also tends to be more specific and is usually directed at specific threats, however the military, intelligence gathering agencies and security services are increasingly working together in areas such as Cyber-Attacks or indeed Cyber Warfare.
Some would have no problem with Monitors sitting in their Living Room to observe it seems.
They are not doing anything wrong and its for Safety after all right?
Far right wingers prefer that monitor to be in the bedroom to prevent any sexual no-no's people might want to preform.
