Vice President Cheney will travel next week to war-ravaged Georgia as part of a swing through several former Soviet republics, making him the highest-level U.S. emissary to visit the country since hostilities between Russia and Georgia broke out this month, officials said yesterday.

The trip, beginning next Tuesday, will include stops in three former Soviet republics -- Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Hmmmm, if I recall correctly Bush Sr had Bush Jr and Putin out on his boat for a little chat.

Perhaps Cheney can invite Putin down to Georgia for a little hunting trip.

This will be a good step forward because it will help slow down the violence since neither country would want to risk injuring the vice president. Also it will be good to have a third party monitoring the situation since both sides currently have conflicting stories.

I hope it's a one-way ticket to Georgia for Mr. Dick Cheney.

Cheney (US) is not my idea of a good third party to monitor the situation.
The US is just as involved (if not overt) as Russia.

Get a real third party country there to monitor.

Putin will not be intimidated by an old, lame-duck paper tiger.

Where are you getting you information you are not very informed on the topic. The only thing the US has done to support Georgia is give them aid currenty and trian their military over the past decade while the Russians have been involving themselves with Georgia since 1990.

Oh that’s comforting news ,,,,, Mr Dick Cheney the “peace maker” going there. I hope they know that he has his finger on the trigger and he’s not one to mess with. Very scary!
