ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- A group of gay and lesbian Republicans has traveled to the site of the GOP convention this week to help convince its party that it is time to stop being on the "wrong side" of the same-sex marriage issue.

I've had lots of gay friends, worked with gay people and fully appreciate their life cultures.

Understand, I haven't voted for a major party candidate since Gerald Ford and am socially fully liberal.

As far as I'm concerned if they want to share legal statutes they should get a 'civil union'. If they want marraige they should get a pope.

Why a Pope?

That is my view too. The government should not even be in the business of "marriage" at all. Marriage should be the sole province of the church and not the state. All the state should do is issue or register "civil unions" and that is all that should be legally recognized. If you want to be "married" go to a church.

there are plenty of churches that do wed gay couples... so now its just a matter of affording them the same rights under the law.. but for the sake of being equal but separate.. conservatives don't wish to extend the name of marriage to them.. somehow like it's theirs to have and dictate who gets to use it

True if anything the gvmt is now picking what Relegion it will listen to and which it won't when it comes to gay marriage .

So the argument that the gvmt should not be involved in marriage is weak .

I think they're just in the wrong party! I'll never understand gay Republicans. I know a couple and they're brains seem to freeze up when I point out how they're voting against their own best interest.

I was going to say that but opted not to lol. Your right what self-defeating person votes against their own interest.

Putting that aside plenty of those "Christian" conservatives that own the GOP hate them .

I don't get that - who cares what you call it? Having gays marry has nothing whatsoever to do with straight people - why, they wouldn't even KNOW if a gay couple got married, unless they were friends or family!
