Explain what you want to do to Chavez, so Tinman will understand what I'm talking about.

I think a lot of people believe that no country has a right to arm itself to defend against an American invasion. America is the world policeman, and will protect any country that deserves to be protected, so why should they need their own defense. If you're doing nothing wrong, why should you be afraid of the World Policeman?

We can strangle Chavez economically, along with Putin. The key is energy generation, and in the short term our best alternative to squeeze Chavez is Brazil.

Also, if you research the past threads involving Chavez and FARC, I've posted past comments about how we can team with Uribe to marginalize both Chavez and Morales.

BTW - Seen Russia and Venzuela's inflation rates lately?

Whats the big deal, its not like we aren't doing the exact same thing in the Persian Gulf. Only now it is freaky because it just so happens to be off our shores.

And to think, what started this latest series of events off was two little tiny break away regions being attacked by Georgian forces along the Russian border.

Hey, who knows, we might get to use those old dusty nukes on the self that have been just laying around doing nothing but costing billions of dollars a year to maintain. Prove to the world once and for all how right we are.

It wasn't too long ago that I would have put odds on whether the Russian ship would break down at sea and need to be towed home. The Russians have enough oil money and are dedicated to a prestige cruise that they probably have gone over these vessels carefully. The fact remains that the Russian navy, short of using nukes, would be hard pressed to defeat many tier 2 naval powers and certainly not the US.

I agree . Russian "stuff" as a whole sucks. It's badly made and low quality material.

They used their best stuff when they recently went into GA and what junk compared to ours.

Venezuela will antagonize Colombia till Colombia which has a military that can devour Venezuala loses it's temper and break's their neck .

I don't feel we should do a thing . Cavez has become isolated among Latin America he is seen as an idiot .

He was fairly elected and we should just ignore him. Worse case Colombia will take care of him they are ready to do just that.

Colombian military was in Everglades couple months ago training and he reacting to that .

I agree though Chavez is a fool we have been poking him over and over . We need to stop .

We want him to make a move and no need for that he will self destruct we do not need more sillyness in another part of the world.

The Colombian military was recently here training in the Glades which was us poking at Chavez because they have their own jungle, swamps in Colombia and there was no need to come here.

Um, why would it have been?

The Soviet navy was for defensive purposes only, unlike the US navy which is an offensive power used to harass and threaten countries into doing whatever the US wanted.

The Russian heavy cruiser that is going over is a Kirov class cruiser. It's the largest warship built since World War II that isn't an aircraft carrier. It has enough missles in it to destroy every major city in the U.S. twice. The Russian Navy is decrepit and old, but since its size has been cut by more than half, it is a more 'managable' and maintainable navy than it was throughout thte 1990's.

When was the last time the Russians did exercises with unfriendly powers? The Cold War. This isn't the armageddon, but it's something to watch.
