If his aim was to be noticed by America, Russell Brand more than achieved his goal last night as he ranted that President Bush was a “retarded cowboy” while hosting the MTV awards.
I'm sure he was trying to reflect upon his own qualities he believes he sees in other people. I had never heard of the guy and don't know why I might have.
I did watch it, hated 90% of the music; (I use the term loosely), had a little trouble getting with Brand's staccato delivery, and I sadly, found myself taken aback by his bold outspokenness; a commentary sad, less for the content of his criticisms than for their rarity these days...
It felt like I was the object of an intervention, much like the wayward friend whose ex-drinking buddies sit down and have a good talk with. Europeans, I have noticed, especially the English, are shocked by us these days, worried for us, and since we hold such sway in Western life in every way, worried for themselves too. I think Brand said things that a lot of American comedians would like to say; sad isn't it? Whether you agree with him or not, that this country has become a place where FREE SPEECH .... is no longer a given. A temporary set-back? I can sense the conscience of America holding its breath, one eye on the 24 hour news channel of their choice, the other on the big clock in the old town square ... waiting ... waiting, for the cloud coverage to blow over.

That guy Russell Brand is ANNOYING! I watched a snipet of the awards show and he was not funny. This comment was purely for a reaction, but it was pretty poor in taste.

News, Russell Brand calls George Bush a 'retard' at MTV awards.
I don't know who Russell Brand is, but he's just stating the obvious.
