93-Year-Old Homesteader Living It Up In The Wilderness - YouTube

There is a whole universe of government handouts (like subsidized housing) that this guy should be locked into...but for some reason he wishes to depend on "himself". Why deny yourself free government cash and benefits just to have "freedom" and "independence"?

What a silly old man.

It was fine for the people before us, but for some reason, people are now considered to be too incompetent to live on their own.

For one, the government has created a system where being anything but homeless requires massive amounts of money. If you own a home, they tax it at confiscatory rates. If you want to build or buy your home, the government raises the cost by multiples.

So, really, the government created the problem it now pretends to "fix" by taking even more away.

What's most amazing about that video is that we have a large number of people here who will watch it and think to themselves that people like Mr. English represents everything that is wrong with this country when in fact the loss of people like Mr. English are what is really wrong with this country.

Good for him. Why exactly should I care what he does on his own?

He is happy. That is all that matters. If I were ninety three and lived out "off the grid" man that would be a dream. Hell if I were 60 and lived out "off the grid" I would be happy. Too many gdam stupid people in the world today. Just go live in a cabin and let em all be stupid and enjoy life. I am jealous of that old guy.

Me, too. I envy him. I couldn't do it.

Pretty much my retirement plan.
Got the cabin I have been building for a while, It's livable, but not finished. It's 2 miles to the nearest neighbor, over 3 miles to a gravel road, 9 miles to a paved road.

I have a ways to go before I can retire, but I can spend a lot of free time up there. Know just what he means, I have been going there all my life, it's a special place to me and the way I love to live.

I have to make allowances for my wife as she has some health concerns, so I have to be able to get her to medical care if necessary, but that is the only thing keeping me from chucking the whole modern world and living up there right now.

I knew a lot of folks like that grand gentlemen in the clip when I was growing up, and I always envied their peace of mind and strength. I've been planning on this for the last 20 years.

Excellent clip. Thank you

You have to respect a man like that. He is unique in this world of gimme folks. Not sure if I am going to be able to be that independent, but it won't be for a lack of trying to be.

Grandpa passed at 96. A year after Grandma. He work since the age of 10. Never accepted a lick of welfare. Not durring the depression...not durring WWII.

the difference between the old timer and Gpa is that Gpa did collect SS and have Medicare.

I hope Mary had some sort of help for the cancer.
