If heart disease, cancer or diabetes runs in your family............why should I be forced to pay for YOUR healthcare?

Come to think of it...........if these health problems run in your family............WHY SHOULD YOU BE ALLOWED TO BREED? Allowing you to add to an unhealthy gene pool will cost other people money.

Selective breeding............now THAT would really bring down healthcare costs, wouldn't it?

But, looks like the FDA is starting to nip at e-cig heels as
well as the anti smoking groups. I wonder if they are going to try to finagle a sin tax out of them I think the FDA is getting a little too big for it's britches, and someone needs to pull down their pants

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Wellness/electronic-cigarettes-fda-warns-manufacturers/story?id=11594556: (broken link)

"The potential for subjecting non-smokers to the vapor of e-cigarettes led Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights to rally for bans on using them in public places:

"We don't know if the vapor is truly safe. We just don't know that much about e-cigarettes. For every environment that's already smoke-free, we believe it should be e-cigarette free," says Cynthia Hallet, executive director."

While users call this product a "miracle" and a "lifesaver," health authorities have been wary of e-cigarettes. The FDA action follows moves by several states, including New Jersey, New York, and New Hampshire, to ban them

The American Cancer Society, Cancer Action Network, American Lung Association and others said in a statement on the product that "absent scientific evidence, these claims…that they are safer than normal cigarettes ... are in blatant in violation of FDA rules."

And suspicions about these unregulated devices are not unfounded. The FDA survey of e-cigarettes found that one brand, Smoking Everywhere, contained diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical found in antifreeze

Even if e-cigarettes lack the toxicity of tobacco cigarettes, the nicotine in them is still a stimulant substance that you would want to keep out of the hands of minors, just as you would caffeine or alcohol, says Dr. Edwin Salsitz of the Division of Chemical Dependency at Beth Israel Medical Center"

The disingenuousness of our government amazes me sometimes. There have been studies of e-cigarettes by other countries, but the good ole USA isn't about to listen to them. New Zealand (not exactly a third world country) conducted the most extensive study. If you are interested, here is the link to their report:

http://www.healthnz.co.nz/RuyanCartr...t30-Oct-08.pdf

For the US, it is all about the money. Despite the government's continuous calls for people to stop smoking, that is an awful lot of tax dollars missing if people were to go to e-cigs as a matter of quitting. They don't REALLY want you to quit.

In addition, their secret partners, Phillip Morris and the like, stand to lose too. With e-cigs, people will continue to "smoke", but just not tobacco. The tobacco companies have a vested interest in having the government put a stop to it. On the other hand, they are lobbying the US to do a health study, ban the imports then let the THEM market the e-cig. Can you imagine Phillip Morris getting their hands on these devices? They will put additives in the e-juice to ensure you are hooked for life.

The pharmaceutical companies don't want to see you use e-cigs to quit as they will lose out on sales of Nicorette gum, patches, Zyban and Chantix...all of which have a VERY low success rate. "Try quitting using our products, fail, try again...repeat."

As to the American Medical Association, American Cancer Society, and American Lung Association, if people stop smoking via the e-cig and all the health related issues related to tobacco smoking drastically decrease, that's an awful lot of grant money that won't becoming their way anymore. Besides that, they are decidedly fanatical and dogmatic about anything that even looks like smoking.

It all sickens me.

Have your restaurant meal, then go poison yourself afterward, if that's your pleasure.
How about you simply do not eat at the place that allows it? Seems like the logical solution. This way, you can choose to eat there or not. The business owner can choose to allow smoking or not leaving the customer to decide if they are willing to do business under the conditions set by the owner?

I guess that makes too much sense, better we throw tantrums and use government to force people to our will!

Right--let the free market decide. If the owner wants to permit it, you are welcome to go elsewhere. The owner does NOT have to cater to your every whim, or be accused of discriminating against you.

You have the power not to patronize, and he has the power to refuse to serve you.

That would truly give people the choice to decide for themselves, unfortunately this issue has never been about the freedom to choose, rather that of some narcissistic arrogant twit who can't stand that others are able to do something they dislike.

I don't even smoke, but when I see one of these whiny little brats go off on their tantrums in public, I want to slap them up side the head for acting like a child.
