Does that have anything at all to do with the OP? I don't think it does. I think you just wanted to post it somewhere.

I really, really dislike those labels: conservative and liberal. Why the need to pigeon hole somebody? Every time I hear somebody use "liberal" like a derogatory adjective, my brain just tunes the person out. Maybe that's why I registered independent.

Please define what a conservative lifestyle is and what the heck is a liberal viewpoint.

I believe in laws against child labor, in a woman's right to vote, in a 40 hour work week. Those three items were advocated by Liberals at the beginning of the 20th century. Am I a liberal?

I don't recommend abortion, but I'm not going to condemn somebody who does.

I do not personally own a gun, but I believe law abiding, mentally balanced people have a right to own arms.

I believe in God, but I'm lucky if I make it to church once a month.

I taught my children how to pray, but I don't want prayer in the schools.

I work for a living and I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes. Yet, it infuriates me when the government borrows money to spend. I don't want the government to spend money it doesn't have.

I have never received welfare, and have had many crappy jobs. Finally found a career that I enjoy and I make a decent living. My life hasn't been easy, but watching other people struggle twice as hard as I did doesn't bring any joy to my heart.

I know a few people who were on welfare, went to school, got decent paying jobs and are now productive, tax paying citizens. It annoys me to no end when said people complain about having to pay taxes and spending it on welfare. How quickly they forget where they came from!
I don't like welfare the way it is set up right now because it doesn't motivate/encourage enough people to get ahead in life. These people need guidance, goals, hope and expectations. The whole system needs to be revamped.

I'm a heterosexual married woman. I believe marriage is a contract. Gay people should be able to enter into such a contract. What's the big deal?

I believe we should take care of planet earth because it is our home. Most people I know try to keep a clean house--why can't we do the same for our planet? I must admit that I drive a Prius primarily because it saves me a lot of money in gas and not because of its low emissions.

I believe there is a role for government in advancing research and development of new technologies, especially in alternative forms of energy. Weaning ourselves from oil should be a national priority.

I am against the war in Iraq, yet I served many years in the military.

There.

Well, that's a good point there. If we didn't cling to these labels as though we can only understand the world in extremes, than I (for example) wouldn't have to say that my lifestyle is conservative while my viewpoints are liberal. People wouldn't call you a conservative for having served in the military but then a liberal for opposing the war. People would understand that it's never that simple.

What exactly is a "conservative lifestyle"? I work(ed, now unemployed but about to join the Navy) for a living, discipline my child when she is naughty, don't feel the need to spend extravagant money on useless objects (Outside of video games. >.>), and have never attended college. Is this a conservative lifestyle? I still do have liberal viewpoints, partially because of how I was raised, and partially because of what I've come to believe in over the years.

I figure "conservative lifestyle" can have a number of definitions, but when I used it originally, I was thinking about how I don't like going out and getting drunk, don't do any drugs, am very focused on my family, and am not promiscuous. At some point in time, someone has assumed the opposite of those things about me because my beliefs tend to be liberal in nature.

Ah, I understand. I'm mostly focused on my family, am not/was not promiscuous (although it's mainly because I've been with my highschool sweetheart since I was 16). I don't like getting drunk in public, however, I do love getting drunk at home.

Oh yeah, there's that. That's fun and there's no harm in it. I have to say, though, (and people reading might find this odd...I don't know) that once when I was out with some peers, and I said I didn't want to drink and didn't want to get in a car with someone who had been drinking, some of them started saying they didn't know I was a conservative.

That's not conservatism, that's just common sense/not wanting to deal with drunkards. >.>;

That's what I thought, too! Apparently it wasn't a popular view with that particular group.
