You're assuming that they're not banging each other in prison anyway.

great name bear,

I think from the stats I read that gay men in general make up a very large part of the HIV positive population.

You are correct, from what I remember black men do make up the highest with HIV; however, it isn't a huge percentage difference that from white males.

Don't like any of this? You'll love China or Burma or North Korea, where citizen rights are very limited (or nonexistent).
You are correct however; they are very limited as they forfeited most of their rights when they chose to violate the rights of others.

I agree that any abiding, contributing US Citizen should be allowed the right to marry whether it's same sex or not. I do not believe prisoners should have that right......

I love my country for all that it stands for and all of those whom it protects as far as rights and opportunity go, obviously convicted criminals do not feel the same way so maybe you should direct your last comment to them.....they might find China, Burma or North Korea more fitting for them as they are not citizen's.....they are convicted criminals.

what is cruel and unusual about not letting someone marry? criminals give up their rights to anything the minute the deny the rights of another.

actually black men acount for less than 1/3rd of the prison population in california. latino men are almost 40% but the population in jail is pretty much the same for blacks and whites. 29 and 27% respectively.

and while the rates of HIV are disporportiantely high amongst black men, most HIV cases are among white men in california.

San Francisco AIDS Foundation: HIV/AIDS & Race/Ethnicity

some one has been scaring you pretty good. to bleive the black man is the boogey man in the AIDS epidemic is silly. and ignorant.

the numbers disprove your assessment. but i must say that HIV is on the rise among black men. and its is fastest growing amongst black women.

facts are our friends. but even without them your argument that HIV will spread like wild fire in jail because of gay marriage is ridiculous!

testing in jails is not at the level it should be. california is a premeir state when it comes to AIDS/HIV research, education and prevention, but a lot has to be done in jails. the rates of HIV in Jail are not very accurate. yet.
the assumption made here, by you, is that black men are the boogey man of AIDS and they are infecting the whole prison population.

first off, HIV has to be present in order to be passed on. until you have accurate numbers of aids prevelance amongst the prison pop you are only making assumptions.

your initial assumption was that the people getting married are active carriers of HIV. how you came to this conclusion is beyond me.

wait... i get it, they are gay!!!! and we all know that the gays have aids. all of them

is that how you think aids will spread? pretty silly. besides what percentage of the population in jail is gay?

so first you think that gays have aids and they will spread it.

but then you clarify your stance and say its the black men. (lets ignore the facts for now)

well you are still wrong. prisons in cali are pretty segregated. black with black, white with white, brown with brown. and the browns are divided by north or south cali. so technically if a black man will pass AIDS to someone, its going to be a black guy. but dont forget he still must first have it to begin with. dont see the wildfire yet.
of course he could be one of those typical black boogey men and seek to rape and infect all the inmates!!!! you know how they are

so much for that. but lets get back to the gays. are you aware that they are also segregated from the general prison population? upon request of course. they dont mix that much. at twin towers they even have theyre own floor! transexualists and the gays!

there are a lot of levels of segregation in jail. that in and of itself reduces the occurence of transmission.

while sex and rape and HIV are a concern in jail. gay marriage will not affect that. it makes nor difference in jail if a guy is married or not. married to a guy or girl. no one cares about that. if they are going to get stuck, stabbed, strangled, raped the fact that they are married will not prohibit this from happening or enhace the possibility of it.

you must be really scared to think this.

or bigoted.

So why allow them to get married?

Since gay ppl pay taxes too, i have no problem with it at all.

A wonderfully educated statement because you took the time to get the facts & then dispelled the usual ignorance of some. It is hard to believe the level of bigotry\disinformation that seems to infect the reactionaries on this forum

the one you covered the issue thoroughly.

How would I feel if it were to happen in my state?

I live in California, and really I do not care. Homosexual conjugal overnight visits and gay marriage with their free partners is not something to be concerned about.

What we should be concerned about is how we have more prisoners per capita than any other country.
