I keep waiting for cries of outrage to echo from these boards. You know, the outrage of those people who do not want to give hungry kids food because that will turn America into a Socialist country. And how about those who do not want national health care because that would turn America into a Socialist country. And certainly we should hear from those who want no unions to protect the American worker because, of course, that too will turn us into a Socialist country.

Well, now that our government has, on the taxpayer's behalf, bailed out the Savings and Loans..yet again, bailed out the brokerage houses, bailed out Fannie and Freddie, bailed out the airlines previously, subsidized the oil companies......in other words, basically subsidized all of wall street and most major companies.....doesn't that make us a socialist country????? Where is your outrage. Why aren't you telling these lazy, worthless bums that they should get a second or third job instead of expecting the taxpayers to pay for their golden parachutes?

Just how many hungry kids could have been fed? Just how many sick people could have had medical care? Just how many blue collar jobs could have been saved? All for much less than the bail outs will cost us, our kids, our grandkids, and our great granchildren. Add all of these bailouts to the cost of the Iraq war...approx. 1.7 TRILLION....much of it owed to China...and ask yourself....how long before we have to declare national bankruptcy? And here you were worrying about buying a glass of milk for a hungry child.

why can't a church feed the 8 hungry children living in the US? oh that's right, they can. I think the largest argument against welfare and national health care is that the government can't handle it, which they can't. we should not bail out anyone, be them the poor, or the rich. I think you are misinformed about some things though. the government doesn't provide jobs, corporations do. the reason they don't want to do business in the US is because of the unfair corporate tax rate. I don't blame them for going elsewhere. I also have no problem with them bailing out the airlines. airlines don't make much money. think of the cost of gas, and how much a ticket on an airplane costs. they lose TONS of money. if they didn't have some form of help or a bailout, we would be paying $3000 per ticket.

Bailouts stink. But so do global depressions.

I agree, for once. This is the bipartisan issue of the day. Things have got to change on Wall Street.

They are blinded by their own ignorance, and hubris.

No one is saying that kids should go hungry or anything else like that. What people are saying is that there are better, more efficient, and more effective ways to take care of these issues other than through government agencies run by lifelong bureaucrats that have no vested, personal interest in going above and beyond and are often content to do just enough not to get fired from their government jobs (a nearly impossible feat).
I've spent time working as a government contractor and saw first hand how ridiculously inefficient and wasteful government agencies are, and how they often times seem to exist merely to perpetuate themselves. It got to the point where, even though my job was pretty well secure and comfortable, I just couldn't stomach the amount of taxpayer money I saw being pissed away everyday as nothing ever got done.

Think about this. Do you really want the same type of federal government bureaucracy that brought us the ridiculously inefficient Hurricane Katrina recovery, Department of Education, Transportation Security Administration, Social Security pyramid scheme on the brink of bankruptcy, one of the most complex and punitive income tax systems in the world, etc. to now be in charge of your health care?
