Hot Air » Blog Archive » Whose policies led to the credit crisis?

Reported in the NY Times 5 Years Ago:
"The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry."

"Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.
”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt (Dem - NC) said.

Its funny that Barry ranks 2nd in contributions from Freddie, Fannie, and Lehman executives since 1989. The guy has been under the covers with them for a long time, and he thinks that the BDS in this country will give him a free pass to just blurt that its Bush policies that caused it.

I think Obama is in for a lot of very embarrassing ads exposing him for the corrupt puppet he is. The RNC does not want to fire their cannons until they are near the battle line. Look for this to come out furiously in mid-late October.

It will be swift boat like, except it will have a lot more evidence behind it than the swift boat stuff did.

McCain will win handily in Nov. The small town people in the states that matter will not be duped by the Obama puppet show.

The New York Times has published a separate list looking at contributions from "directors, officers, and lobbyists for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac" for the 2008 campaign cycle. That list — using figures from the Federal Election Commission — shows McCain receiving $169,000, while Obama received only $16,000.
