As a spectator of the massive slow motion train wreck that the United States has become it seems as if there is no solution to our present decline. However, I will pose one very radical idea that needs to be considered. The idea is this, repeal the constitution because it has failed and dissolve the United States. Then allow each state to rejoin the United States (if they wish to) under the Articles of Confederation. True Liberty begins with people choosing what form of government they want. It would be like a do over of sorts.

Sounds Crazy, but it is the only option left before we go down the road towards inevitable totalitarianism. We have already passed many of the warning markers and there doesn't seem to be much time before it is too late to save our REPUBLIC. The enemy is not a foreign hostile nation, it is not Wall Street and it certainly is not the American people. The monster is our own Federal Government.

What do you say? Didn't the Articles of Confederation fail, that is what my teachers told us in public school. Actually, the Articles of Confederation if given time and a little bit of modification would have worked out quite well for the United States. Switzerland has a similar system to that of the Articles and no person can say that Switzerland is not a success. When was the last time the Swiss attacked another country based on lies, nuked civilians or spied on its own people.

I can keep going, but I don't have time to write a thesis paper explaining every point to support my point of view. However, I look forward to the posts that will surely mock such a radical idea as restoring the Articles of Confederation.

Thirty seven states entered the union by agreeing to the terms of statehood. All the people who voted for entry into the USA are now dead, and the people living today are bound by an agreement signed by dead people.

Maybe every 50 years, each state should be required to conduct a binding referendum, as to whether thy want to stay in or get out. With that hanging over Washington's head, maybe they would pay a little better attention what what is going on in this country.

They already tried the articles of confederation and it did not work. If we have to tweak the articles of confederation, we should try to tweak the constitution first.

(I'm sure Lehman Brothers, Bear & Stearns, AIG, et al would disagree re: the federal government. Our government is taking real good care of corporations.)

ALL our elected representatives have been behaving like prostitutes. They've been selling themselves to the highest bidder.

A few changes to the constitution are needed:

1. Since the politicians won't get rid of gerrymandering, eliminate congressional districts. District boundaries create long standing dinosaurs that take away representation from a great number of voters. Some districts are so democrat or so republican that they are taken for granted and presidential candidates don't even campaign there because it is either "a sure thing" or "a hopeless cause". My congressman is a rubber stamp. In effect, I pay taxes but I have no representation in Congress. If you don't believe me, watch the upcoming election. Observe how everything boils down to a few states. Representation in Congress should also be proportional.

2. Eliminate the "winner take all system". There should be proportional representation. EX: the voters in a hypothetical state voted 55% for party A, 45% for Party B, and 10 % for party C. Every party sends a representatives to the electoral college according to the proportion of votes they received. NONE of that party A received 52%, so the entire state delegation is from party A. What about the rest of the people in that state? They count for nothing? Don't they pay taxes? Shouldn't they have some representation also? No wonder people are so disgusted.

3. Stick to the "one man/woman one vote" thing. The SCOTUS should be tarred and feathered for allowing PAC's and corporations from effectively stealing the people's access to their representatives. PAC's and special interest groups money donations to political campaigns do not constitute "freedom of speech". Face it: they're BRIBES. These groups have been writing legislation. Then, after they screw up, the taxpayers have to bail them out. It should be "one person, one donation".

4. The president should go to Congress every two weeks and answer questions. Tell your representatives to ask intelligent, relevant questions that reflect your concerns. I'm sick and tired of hearing "the president didn't know" excuses. We need transparency. We are paying taxes. We have the right and the need to know what the heck is going on and what they're doing with our money. If someone wants to be president, he/she had better stay informed and aware about the concerns of the people.

Sounds good to me, but why not keep the constitution, and let the states interprate law in their own courts. Also, each state should cut off funding for the beast, and keep the lions share of taxes, in the form of state taxes, not federal.

Let the fed keep its role for defence and tariffs, and add a balanced budget ammendment to the constitution. Re-vamp congress and get rid of lobbyist and special interest fungi. Pick congress people from a cross-sectional pool of qualified candidates in each state, at random, to be representatives for short 2 or 4 year terms. No more expensive drawn out elections, but maybe for the governor and president.

Let the states control the following,

Education and what, if any, mixture of religion they want with it, abortion, border control and deportation, public housing and welfare policy, gun control, marijuana, gay marriage, pornography, environmental policy, healthcare, and everything else already in their domain.

I'm all for it. As a native Texan, I'd be opposed to joining any union. Texas as its own republic would do just fine. And, already has an embassy in London as it did have when Texas was a Republic.

In article IV it says "Full faith and credit shall be given in each of these States to the records, acts, and judicial proceedings of the courts and magistrates of every other State." What do you think the phrase "full faith and credit" mean? Please feel free to post what you think about it.THNX

I vote we kick out all the red states. They get too much tax revenue as it is from us blue states, they are a net drain on our resources. And we won't get whacky evangelicals and religious kooks as politicians, and red states don't have to live in a country that has gay marriage and literacy.

I think both parties will be happy.

Perhaps some of the best ideas that I have yet to see emerge from anywhere in this forum! Let the states put the federal regime back in its intended place!

This thread definitely should have had a poll included! Then it could be sent to the state legislatures for their perusal.
