I am personally against the death penalty, however I do understand the many reasons that many people do support the ultimate punishment in certain cases. When no other punishment seems to be appropriate, the death penalty allows for us, as citizens, to enact justice on those who have committed the most horrendous and violent crimes.
Even those who are strong proponents of the death penalty should be able to clearly see the uncertainty related to this case. Most of the witness have recanted their original testimony and there is no physical evidence which would link Mr Davis to the crime.
Many influential leaders have seen the obvious injustice that is scheduled to be carried out tomorrow night, please take a minute to sign the petition or contact the board or paroles and pardons.
I'm not really enthusiastic about the death penalty, seeing as we're one of the few nations left on Earth that still uses it, but there are greater tragedies in the world than putting to death people who aren't exactly the standard bearers of society.
He might be one of those people who fell through the cracks of justice system and is now being wrongly executed... or he may may in fact be guilty. He could very well end up being sacrificial in order to preserve the death penalty, this is something that must be accepted in this system.
There is NO greater tragedy than executing an innocent man. Anyone who would accept this should ask themselves how they would feel if their daughter, son, or spouse would be executed for a crime they did not commit. If there is any doubt wether the person is guilty, a person should never be killed by the government.

You really believe this? You must be sheltered beyond all hope if you really stick to what you have just said... here is your chance to "recant". I would rather have my family peacefully executed, on accident... than some crazed, raping murderer having his way with them. I am not saying thats what the type of man Troy is but his potential sacrifice is for the better good.
Yes, I really believe this.
I wonder if you would believe this, if you were going to die for something you did not do?
Because if you execute an innocent man, your "crazed rapist etc. " is still out there.

Killing an innocent person doesn't preserve the death penalty, it damages the foundation of our justice system. This is the very reason why many people are opposed to the death penalty and even those who are supportive of the right of the government to put people to death must question how it can be justified in cases where there is any reasonable doubt as to the guilt or innocence.
Calling this a sacrifice for the greater good is ignoring what the greater good actually is, the ability of all of us to rely on the justice system to ensure our freedoms and rights.

Take the bad with the good. Crazed rapists are lucky they get away with just a simple execution, if I had my way they would be tortured for weeks.

It most certainly does preserve it because if he weren't being executed then the death penalty would be diminishing. The justice system will get better or it will get worse regardless of whether there is or is not a death penalty. The death penalty is just one of many destinations that the justice system reaches. To remove destinations is foolish, to change how you arrive at a destination is completely different, I simply prefer the latter of the two.

I assume that you would be willing to sacrifice your life to preserve the death penalty. Picture it, you are pulling out of a McDonalds after chowing down on Big Mac and some guys are standing outside arguing, one guy shoots the other guy and then flees on foot, you are shocked, the cops come a minute later, the witnesses inside the McDonalds only remember seeing you leave and then they hear gunshots moments later. No physical evidence at the scene, only their word.
You are found guilty, sentenced to die, leaving your family husbandless, fatherless, whatever. You are fine with it, you tell your family, "Don't worry, it's for the greater good".
Right?
