"Draft legislation proposes sweeping powers for Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to buy and sell mortgage-related securities however he sees fit. Aside from requiring periodic reports to Congress, the bill provides no oversight of the bailout's management -- and specifically bars any court or agency from reviewing it."

The 7+ year tradition of thinking "oversight" a 4 letter word will apparently be tough to break. Maybe the theory is since lack of oversight led us down this path it'll work like a trail of cookie crumbs to lead us back?

Finally people are waking up. Maybe because this bill spells it right out in plain English.
All the other legislation that was passed in the form of "war on terrorism" was to keep us safe.

They are using the same words here..protect the American consumer and homeowner.

Our rights are being stripped away people..I hope you see that now.

I'd trust him further than I'd trust Congress.

Congress... 535 reasons to support term limits. NEVER vote for an incumbent.

I hope that having this power grab be so blatant will FINALLY awaken the people. I could make a list two pages long of the rights that have been stipped from us in the past 25 year with hardly a raised eyebrow. People shrug and turn on the tv to see what is going on with Brittney. Both parties have been guilty but these past 7 years have seen the unconstitutional behavior increase at warp speed. We are very near in danger of no longer having a constitution that holds water. A still people remain silent. "This is the way the world will end. This is the way the world will end. This is the way the world will end. Not with a bang but a whimper."

I wish people had been this vocal about the Patriot Act.

Surely there are plenty of McCain supporters for this bail out power grab. After all, McCain supporters didn't seem to mind McCain talk like there could be a need to stay in Iraq for 100 years.

As I've heard it said, "I Love My Country, but I Fear my Government"

The Wall Street elite can't win if it can't cheat! The public is now the perpetual sucker: stick 'em on the way up, and stick 'em on the way down. Now the criminals want the government to shake the last nickel out of the taxpayer. The swindlers responsible for this fraud should be looking at time in jail, trying to make bail instead of getting a bailout. Ben and Hank should also be under investigation because of false statements they made during numerous U.S.Government inquiries and for providing protection for criminal activities in high places.

I was, and about several other things as well. Unfortunately, until it hits some folks right across the face...or in the pocketbook...the charlatans get away with it.
