Tuwaitha and an adjacent research facility were well known for decades as the centerpiece of Saddam's nuclear efforts.

Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981. Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said.

Read the whole article. This was covered months ago, like in July. This was under control of the IAEA and was not the reason Bush invaded Iraq.

It's not news. The yellowcake was known about before the first Gulf War. It doesn't substantiate Bush's WMD claims.

W sure was in a hurry to get the UN team out of Iraq. W criticized the team's inability to find WMD and Cheney calimed they had photos. UN wanted the photos but we did not give then any - because we simply wanted war and were not interested in anything else. Powell stood in front of UN and (probably unknowingly) lied to the world about WMD.

Then the WMD mission changed to establishing democracy.

We were supposed to have cheering crowds that never showed up.

Mission was accomplished and that did not happen. By the way, the cost of this is a mere $1 trillion.

Iran owes us a "thank you" for making it powerful.

Somewhere about now, we need to stop BSing about this.

I've already ripped the article to shreds and half dozen times.

First, the yellow cake was left in Iraq under the control of the IAEA after the first Gulf War and everyone, including the US was aware of this. It was all accounted for, all 100%.

Second, yellow cake uranium CANNOT be used to produce a nuclear weapon, except in your fantasy world.

Third, Iraq had no equipment to convert the yellow cake into anything other than yellow cake.

Fourth, yellow cake is essentially uranium ore (uranium oxide). There was 550 metric tons, which is 605 US Short Tons. Uranium ore contains 99.27% U238 and 0.72% U235. Therefore, using 4th Grade Math, 605 tons is equivalent to 1,210,000 pounds which would yield 8,712 pounds of U235. However, only 60% of the U235 is recoverable, so at most only 5,227 pounds of U235 can be recovered. It takes about 125 pounds (56 kg) to make a nuclear warhead. Accordingly, the maximum number of nuclear devices that could be built is about 41 nuclear warheads, not the 140 falsely claimed in many propaganda articles, and each of those 41 nuclear warheads would have a yield of 0.1 kt (or 100 tons). At most, only 8 warheads with a yield of 20 kt could be built, but such warheads could not be mounted on missiles, and Iraq has no aircraft capable of delivering such warheads if they were designed as gravity bombs.

So who cares?

Thank you all for your input. I got this info from an e mail ast night and did a google and found this article so I just threw it out here to find out what others thought.
I do know that is not why GW invaded Iraq but it is my understanding that we invaded Iraq because Saddam violated the terms of the cease fire re the first Gulf war one time to many with no regard for the terms at all. The first Gulf War was never ended only a cease fire was agreed upon.
