or I could site the fact that he's an obvious moron. not only does he want to install a socialists plan (bernie sanders), but he wants the top 400 of income earners to bail themselves out. what does bill gates have to do with this? moore is an idiot, and yes, he's a FAT idiot.

Try $50M+, and a million dollar penthouse in Manhattan is not living "a pretty spartan lifestyle".

You've fallen for Moore's "I'm just an average guy" line of BS. He is anything but. You can agree with his politics and still see him for what he is - a liar and a charlatan. You don't need to defend the man in order to defend his (and your) political positions.

I don't think Gates, or Warren Buffet for that matter, are hurting in this as they have run their companies in a more responsible manner.

I wonder if Buffet's current buying spree isn't more of a charitable move than a fortune building one at this point.

Whenever the attack goes to a non-issue like a person's weight, it is obvious you got nothing to say. Debate his points.
What he looks like matters not at all. How much he personally has matters not at all, just as how much you have doesn't matter in this debate.

The amusing thing is that he's part of the class he rails against. People like jtur88 buy his "average joe" BS. Moore knows that ultimately, he's not going to have any significant impact, but he makes a hell of a lot of money from people that buy into his nonsense.

The blaming of minority homeowners for bringing down the largest economy in the world is ludicrous. A small percentage of the smallest (economic) minority in this country could not by themselves cause such large scale insolvency.
The candle has definitely been burning at both ends. Foreclosures on subprime mortgages, adjustable rate mortgages, and "no doc" mortgages certainly have hit the banks hard. Take the ridiculous derivatives debacle out of the equation and there are still drastic issues with involvency and foreclosure.

I would like to see a full post-mortem in the near future to show the extent to which each of the moving parts caused this crisis.

Somebody said that a sense of shame at having defaulted has been replaced by a sense of triumph at having beaten the system for some amount of time for many defaulters. I could hardly believe the amount of money I was pre-approved for three months ago. Granted, my FICO is 806, but I was pre-approved for about two and a half times what would have been smart. I did a lot of homework and used the 28/36 rule in my own calculations and then the pre-approval threw that completely out the window. Stunning.

I could easily have gotten into a house more expensive than I could afford. My responsibility was to NOT do so. I couldn't buy more than I was pre-approved for (plus my down payment) either, but that pre-approval amount is huge.

Many people simply can't afford a house. It is just too expensive. Sad but true. Given that, they shouldn't be shoehorned into $0 down/interest only/adjustable rate/piggyback mortgages which technically work but are bound to come back and bury them when house values fall and/or when the ARM resets. The 28/36 rule shouldn't be thrown out the window. The requirement for documentation of income shouldn't be thrown out. The FICO score needs to mean something substantive about credit-worthiness, and some people simply shouldn't be able to buy houses. It really comes down to mathematics at the end of the day!

actually, I did debate his "plan." him being a fat slop just ads an ironic twist to someone who wants to be considered the face of health care in this country.
