I watched this movie today and it was excellent. It just reinforced my belief that organized religion is all bunk and truly a mental disease for the most part. According to the movie, 16% of Americans(myself included) are not religious and could give a rat's ass about religion. I could not help but think about Palin's ideas about abortion, rape and other absurdities. The last thing we need is some religious nutcase in the White House. These people suffer from a mental disease that can almost never be cured. Hopefully, in the near future, we will be able to elect a president who could care less about religion

It will attract city dwellers, but will be a flop everywhere else.

Did you actually see the movie?

I saw it on Saturday, and thought it was brilliant. Of course, people are going to judge it automatically because it has Bill Maher. When you listen to him break down religion to the people he is interviewing "So, you believe in talking snakes?", it just shows how ridiculous religion really is.

You do not believe in the separation of Church and State? I am a church-goer and have been angered over the years as to how it has become a part of government/election practice. Do you recall why those folks left England back in the day? The OP stated they were looking forward to an election where it finally wasn't a part of the process. That is in keeping with a concept known as the "constitution". Dem's and Rep's **** me off when they use it.

I really think that functionally, that 16% number is far, far higher. A small minority of Americans practice their religion fastidiously, follow its principles and live every day of their lives in accordance and with reference to their faith - which is my definition of a religious person.

The rest of the country live their lives as functional atheists, with only a vague nugget of acknowledging a deity in the back of their mind. Most people identify as "religious" out of the tradition of primacy of religious life in United States history, and pollsters admit that it is probable that many people who respond to these polls tend to overstate things like church attendance. But I'd like to see how many of those people actually do participate actively in church life, or are just answering what they would like to think of themselves.

I can't stand Bill Maher (can anybody?) because he's a condescending jackass, but the movie does look interesting. I just think a lot of people are going to be turned off because it's Bill Maher.

I really don't like Bill Maher, but I'll probably end up downloading this so I can know what my irate Christian coworkers are whining about.
