hm. my son is seven. if i bought him a knife, which i am not saying i will or won't, it would be the pocket knife variety. For boy's stuff, not defending himself.

I am surprised she is willing to have this stuff around if she used to cut herself. seems odd.

Oh who cares! I had knifes around me for as long as I can remember. Got my first pocket knife on my 5th birthday (was really mad when that got stolen!). Parenting is all about presenting an example, teaching your children what is right and wrong, and then giving them the chance to use the lessons you have taught them!

Children never learn if they never have to make choices!

angelina is a good mom.
50 years ago this was considered normal behavior. that was b4 criminalization of self defense.
you know those 250 people that died in the 911 crash? know why they did not rush the 3 guys with box cutters? we have been reprogrammed folks. we will pay a terrible price for neutering our young men.

Well, I think this is really an important topic. So I just have to weigh in. I am glad we take the time to discuss this, rather than the wars or our disaster of an economy.

Way back when (OMG the late '80s!) a bunch of us in cub scouts had those really small swiss army knives. About all they could do was carve on sticks a little bit. No bike helmets either... it's a miracle we all managed to stay alive.

Unless it's something huge, or she's being weird with it I don't see what the big deal is.

It's her child, her business. If he abuses his rights and responsibilities, then it's society's business.
