THe scientific defect in the poll on this page is that nobody participated in the poll unless they were attracted to the word socialism in its title. That immediately invalidates it. It also reached a non-random sample of the population, which infalidates it. And people who think the US is inclined to become socialist do not necessarily favor socialism, and in fact, for the most part, they harbor an irrational fear of an economic system that they do not understadn, which even further invalidates the conslusion you have drawn from the replies.
Because they do not agree with it you automatically assume that they do not understand it?

About time that America learned how to have Socialism and Capitalism run side by side. Either on its own does NOT work.

Why does it scare you or make you sad when you yourself opened an office and lived in Hong Kong, which is Socialist! Couldn't have scared you that much!

We do have that!

We are a capitalist country, which gives people the choice to lead a capitalist or socialist lifestyle.

In a socialist country, there is no choice.

How can you live a Socialist lifestyle here in America? If you prefer socialism, get a job in government issuing license plates or teaching where mediocrity is rewarded. Socialist retirement and health care programs come with those jobs. These are honorable professions and there is little threat of being fired and little hope of making it big. These low risk jobs have commensurate rewards.

Don't get jealous or upset when someone takes a high risk path and is rewarded appropriately. This entrepreneurial spirit is the engine that allows such a fine lifestyle for the low risk careers (when compared to other countries)!

You really haven't got a clue of how a country lives with both socialism and Capitalism. Socialism is put into place to protect the citizens who do not have the chance of good jobs or even a job. To help people who through no fault of their own have a chronic sickness or a illness that prevents them from working full time. Capitalism on it's own destroys the moral fibre of any society. It breeds exploitation. If you don't believe me, look at the current financial crisis in America. How can i be jelous when i get the benefit of both Capitalism and Socialism? Through hard work and my entrepreneurial skills i have a great lifestyle and can afford to live in the UK and the USA. I can do this AND pay taxes that allows others to benefit who have not got the skills or good fortune that i have. Unfortunately the term Capitalist brings out the worst in some people, the greedy elitist, ME, ME ,ME. America has been now saved from disaster by a socialistic bailout. NOT BAD EH?

You seemed to have missed the European bailout. The bailout did nothing to strengthen the capitalist markets so will not be enough. Capitalizing gains while socializing losses is not the answer. Getting government out of the market would bring the rewards back in line with the risks. The term capitalist brings out the maximum productivity and efficiencies. This allows for more philanthropy. That is why the US gives more to charity than any other nation.

Would your success from hard work and entrepreneurial skills more likely be repeated in a completely socialist country or capitalist country?

To me the greedy are not the ones who produce allot and therefore earn allot and want to keep more of what they earn. The greedy are the ones who want someone else through government to pay for their own life. Give me health care, Give me retirement, Give my kids an overpriced education.....Me Me Me

A Capitalist cannot be greedy because he can only keep what he earns. A socialist cannot be philanthropic because he never has the opportunity to earn. On the other hand, A Socialist can be greedy and a Capitalist can be philanthropic.

No, its because at least half the posters here think it is socialism to bail out big banks. Many of those are the saem people who answered your poll.
