How do you think this system would work in the U.S? I think it may be a better model for America than Canada's system.

Thanks for that great link. Here are other articles about health care in other countries.

Isn't one of our issues in America our population size? With 300 million Americans we'll need an healthcare approach that takes this into account. This is one of the BIG differences between America and other countries with Universal care. Also I think our healthcare reforms will need to take into account the impact of our 76 million retiring baby boomers on healthcare.

This is why I think we'll need healthcare reforms that's not overly dependent on tax dollars in America. They also touch on medicare in the link.

Great article. Im surprised something so privatized is allowed to exist in Europe.

problem:

Newly unemployed. Housing and food and not becoming homeless comes first. This means health insurance gets dropped very fast. Most people have near zero savings and health insurance easily runs ~60% of any unemployment checks.

The Swiss model is impressive, and is one of the few privatized systems that actually works. Well, actually the Swiss model is what I've been preaching to people all along, I just never knew it was actually in use somewhere!

The only problem is that Switzerland has tougher immigration laws, and naturally, fewer (none really) illegals to deal with. In the United States, we would need to give free coverage to about 20 million illegals who contribute nothing to the economy. Not to mention the unemployed.

Maybe I will use the Swiss model as a start and come up with my own system to completely destroy Liberal and Conservative ideas on the issue.

A big issue that most Democrats leave out of the discussion is the fact that we are a huge nation with open border immigration. Every single nation with Universal Healthcare has unbelievably strict immigration standards, and just because you jumped the border it DOES NOT guarantee any sort of coverage. So in reality, it would be borderline impossible to provide universal coverage without destroying our own economy in the process (although, that probably won't matter before long....).
