The GOP needs to return to its true roots akin to Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt's leadership. The GOP were originally distrustful of powerful banks and leaned toward protectionism for critical national industries.

It is a cruel irony that both of these issues were destroyed by recent Republican leadership through the blind deregulation of financial institutions and lax import policies that did not require reciprocal trade requirements.

We all see now what happens when you allow banks to make the right decisions only to be kept in check by "moral hazard." It becomes a lack of morals resulting in a hazardous situation for the responsible citizens who have had their savings accounts robbed of their life savings.

Largely one-sided trade from China, South Korea and other Asian countries have wiped out entire American industries that previously provided good paying jobs for our citizens. Those jobs have been replaced with low paying service jobs that sell the cheap products from the Asian nations that we import in alarming quantities. Our biggest export is our dollars which are enriching Asian-producing countries at our expense. To rub salt in our wounds they are buying up our prime assets and soon will soon have a controlling interest in the make-up of our nation.

Our Constitution was written for the American people. It was not written to facilitate policy leading to the selling off of our country.

As Abraham Lincoln stated, "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I get a kick out of Dems whining about GOP scare tactics. Pot meet kettle

People need to remember that this country shifts over time. Take a look at the doom and gloom ca 1988 and 1994 for Dems.

The current shift will last until either or both:
1) Depth of recession caused by the current fiscal mess. Most people get very socialistic when they are unemployed, have no health insurance, and the unemployment rate is 8 percent making finding work very difficult. The difference is some never stop fighting and eventually get work vs the loser class that nver gets a job, even when the unemployment rate is 5 percent.
2) Obama overshoots his (perceived) mandate. If the only stuff that happens is what he talks about... thats really only a moderate shift overall excepting health care... Look for stuff NOT talked about:
a) Union Card check
b) Repeal Taft Hartley
c) Federal sales tax on top of current taxes
d) Welfare
e) Global warming taxes etc. We are talking BIG here
f) Nationalization of your 401K.

The country is shifting towards moderate republicans, conservative dems and (Yes!) independants. I know in eastern Pennsylvania conservatives are slowly being driven back but at the same time liberal candidates are also not winning. The middle ground is taking hold.
In 2 years time you'll see a huge shift against liberals as the voters see that they are as incapable as conservatives of running the country. I doubt they'll want to shift back to conservatives this soon, but you'll see moderate new republicans and conservative democrats warring with their party leaders.
Politics is a pendulum. You swing back and forth between extremes and both parties think (erroneously) that they are in to stay. Then they get booted.

I also get a laugh when I see right wingers and left wingers arguing with each other and both being oblivious to how alike they are to each other.

Montana and some other states are only beginning to lean left because of Californians moving in. In NH it's people from NY and MA and such, same with FL only there it's largely retirees from those left-leaning states so as they die off that may turn around.

Shays was & is just another liberal Republicrat. Good riddence.

The truth is that Conservatives need a new party, the Republicans are not Conservative by definition any longer. They been taken over by liberalism & communist, socialist ideals.

People forget that the Southern states were once mostly Democratic & conservative. It was democrats that wanted to keep slavery going & after the war it was democrats that pushed segregation. My point being that times change & we better start noticing that things are not what they seem if we really want to keep our country.
Voteing Dem or Rep at this point is voteing to give up what made us great.

Only in your right wing dreams.

Here is their party voting record. The naughty one out of the whole bunch votes 95% of the time with the Dems. All the others range from 97% to 98%.

OpenCongress - Representatives

Shays votes 79% of the time with Bush and the GOP. .......For this, he must go.
