In a UHC you have the choice of what doctor you see and what hospital you use. When you use a private health insurance they are far more restrictive to what you are allowed. Any chance they get, they will inhibit treatment. They also load the premiums for any chronic illness or do not cover it. It is NOT only the young who get good treatment in the UK. My dad is 87 and gets first class treatment.
No one is benefiting from the American Health Service. In fact many breakthroughs are from the UK and other countries.Socialism and Capitalism side by side is the only way that people can really excel. Capitalism on it's own breeds greed and exploitation. You really have a skewed idea of a socialistic Govt. It does NOT take any freedoms away, in fact it promotes freedom and gives Every Citizen the complete feedom of choice and not what big corporations decide we should have. When i see a CEO or Director raping his company to become mega rich on the backs of his workers..yes i see greed. Too much of that in the USA now. They wave the stick and the employees make them rich. Getting a UHC isn't free. in fact many people who use it have at one time or the other paid into it and never used it. when they no longer work and use it they have paid and it isn't a handout. People who have never worked get the healthcare because we believe in the common good. I would much rather pay into a system where i know that every member of my family will get great health care than pay into a system that is so insular it only benefits the rich or the fortunate. To have healthcare for everyone is good for a nation. To have people sick without care is bad for a nation and expensive to the nation. The British Govt. is NO larger than the American Govt. In fact it is far less complicated. If you don't like how i use or don't use colours. if you don't like it..don't read it. China is not an example i would use for anything (except polution). You have a immigration problem because your neighbouring countrys are poor and with no borders can just walk across. They are also an important part of big company strategy..low pay and no responsibilty. All countries are built on immigration. America has always had tight immigration control. Nothing to do with socialism or capitalism just other Govt.s not needing to look after their own people as America will take them. Look at the blogs and count how many are whining about money going into a uhc etc and then count the blogs on money going to Iraq. Big discrepency. The poor and rich get access to great schools with a govt. run ecucation system for ALL.43 million Americans DO NOT have any healthcare....simple. Your SChools are failing because the Schools in good areas get more funding than Schools in bad areas. I have many freinds in the USA and family . They are all fed up with the greed and failing economy caused by it. My freinds are dems and reps. Only the hardcore reps will vote for McCain the others will not. Even the right do not like McCain. What has anyone got to be optimistic about at the moment (except Obama getting the Election) Noticed how prices are rising sharply and houses are falling rapidly. NO such thing as free anything. Not a handout but a civil right to have healthcare and Schooling. The rest is up to every individual.
I was logically arguing point by point in an effort to maintain clarity. You have responded with a single paragraph tirade you forgot to spell check that restates your positions without showing the fault in my arguments. I could go through and restate my arguments, but that would be pointless. When you think find something wrong with one of my arguments, feel free to address it. In the mean time my previous post pretty much answers the tirade above and there is no reason to bore the readers of this thread by repeating them.

You did ask one new question at the end. what has anyone to be optimistic about? How bout our faith, and the fact that we live in the greatest nation on earth with the most opportunity and that even the poorest among us are better off than the average citizen on the planet - taking into account all nations. If you only consider third world nations, it begs the question what do you and all your friends have to be so pessimistic about?

Take off the rose-colored glasses! America is the greatest at some things and not at others. We have too many poor and homeless and without healthcare. Our education system at the secondary-school level needs improvement in many parts of the country. Our jobs are constantly being exported to other countries because the cost structure of our labor is out of whack, mostly because of our screwed-up healthcare system. Our politicians in Washington are OUT OF TOUCH with the people. Our military is overburdened with ridiculous missions of NATION-BUILDING and BABY-SITTING Exxon and other multi-national corporations.

Um I was answering a question, not wearing rose colored glasses. The question did not require me to point out the negatives. Then I made a point that this is the greatest OVERALL country. Yea some are greater in some areas and some are not. Now assuming I bought into all your negative liberal scare tactic talking points above, the point still remains that I would rather be in this country than any other. The rest of the world agrees with me on that. As your new hero Colin Powell said and I am paraphrasing. You can go to any country in the world and you will find a line at our embassy of people who want to come to the US. I say, the more socialistic a country is the shorter the line at their embassies.

Before correcting me, please check your own post. I suppose you think dying in the street in America, because of no health cover, is more fortunate than dying in the street in any other country?
You think everyone should shout "Hallelujah". The poorest in America are NOT better off than the Average citizen on the Planet. The Poorest citizen in the UK is given first clas health treatment whenever he needs it. Rose coloured glasses stops reality...take them off!

If someone is "dying" as you suggest - they are NOT DENIED HEALTHCARE regardless of their financial condition

Your continued spouting of anything different is nothing more than an outright lie -
