When i was in Jr High I lived in a hispanic part of town(75%of Salinas California is)
Lived there about a year or two.
I had a beer bottle thrown at me for being white.
And was jumped.
I was given and then lost a job all in the same day and was told it was because I was white.
Also, years ago I qualified #1 for a job at the phone company (when there was only one) and was told that due to federal government mandates only blacks and females could get employment there for a 3 year period.
I don't think I ever noticed any "reverse" racism. Sexism, yes.
The first time I really experienced something I could call definite racism was looking for apartments with my black boyfriend. The % of landlords who called us back was much, much smaller than when I was with a white guy before. I could just see that look in their eyes- it was a very sad time.
I used to date a black man. In fact, we grew up together. About 6 months into the dating relationship, he decided to end it because he discovered that I was white...yes, he said this...and that he needed to get "into" his "blackness." When I told him this was racist, he said that blacks can't be racists because they're not in a position of power. Ho hum.....
Yes, as a woman married to a mixed race man, I have had comments directed at me by AA (African American) women. I'm white, but with AA members in my immediate family. We had many more negative experiences from CA (Caucasian American) men however. I will say, in credit to my home state, we have never experienced OVERT racism here at home.
