People will lie to make justifications for their own bias and prejudice.

Anyway, i'm much more about class than race. I'd rather live amongst blacks with a similar class and culture to myself.

If not, I'd prefer a majority middle class white area to a predominantly poor black one.

As a lily white guy in my 50's. I grew up on military bases, until we settled here. Melting pot doesn't describe it.
Left over stew. There was absolutely no thought of anyone being different based upon their complexion.
Not until we got back to the states and we lived in the same place in Florida where my dad was born & raised while he was off to Vietnam, did I even know what racism was.

We were all the same tribe.... Until we weren't.

I wrote an essay if you will about where I live. I titled it: It takes a village. It amazes me how close knit everyone is. The other 2 white guys keep their distance from the locals, where as I embraced the community. The other whites? One is German and the other is a Belgian. If you can't tell I really dont care for them. Their arrogance towards the locals is appalling, their arrogance towards me is slightly annoying. They don't even like each other.
In my "village" I was adopted and taken in. They wanted me to learn about them, see what they were really about. It has been an education. Everyone seems to have talents or skills. They share and do for each other without hesitation.
Me? My skill is fixing stuff. I have the cool tools and the skill to use them. They aren't shy about coming to me to fix a washing machine, an automatic gate that has failed, you name it. Then the children. They love American treats and love learning how to make cookies and cake. Because of them I really learned my numbers. They love to play bingo and jump rope. My wife and I are like the village grand parents to all.
I was sick a few weeks ago, every child came to visit me. Their moms send home remedies. LOL The dads brought alcoholic beverages with marinating bananas floating in the toxic brew. I can't say what cured me, but I got better fast. hahaha

One of my best friends from the service died in 2004 and his son came to live with me. LOL the only black kid in our town. That boy was angry and had a chip on his shoulder. Not with me as we had a great relationship since he was born. He was angry that not one relative would take him. His mother had disappeared shortly after his birth. No clue why.

That boy came from a big city to live in farm country. He adapted quickly. Learned to hunt, shoot, and work on the dairy farm for some money. He was also popular in school because that boy could play baseball. We dont have a football team. Long story short, he found that he could fit in. Did he miss the city and his friends there? You bet. He was always lecturing me about tucking my T-shirt in. LOL. I still do it. He went off to the military and is making a career of it. I like when we go visit his home city and his accent would change almost in minutes back to the city. Then we leave and that accent disappeared.

I love whites lecturing about minorities, when said white has never lived 24/7 with minorities. Never lived in a minority neighborhood. But they know a few from work or went to school with one. LOL
I had to think about this. If the two people you mention are so arrogant towards the community, why are they there in the first place?

I've lived in several places. There are times I have had to depend on my neighbors for things, and vice versa. Sometimes you learn things just from interacting with your neighbors. Other times you learn some not so good things. In many cases, I've been around some bad neighbors who have treated me poorly. Other cases I've been around nice people. One of my neighbors has hosted things like fires (where people come and make s'mores).

I'm thinking about your friend's son and how he fit into the community you were living in. Then I think about my own childhood. I moved a few times. I moved to somewhat rural area in middle school. I think your friend's son had a much better time fitting in than I did. I struggled. I was a very bookish, nerdy kid. I did play sports (I used to play baseball in middle school. I ran track and cross country in high school). However, I struggled more. Alot of kids like skateboarding. I tried to learn but alot of the skateboarder kids just laughed at me and bullied me. I also got bullied by "rednecks" and "hood rats".

I've lived in both majority-White areas and places where minorities were the majority. I've grown up in predominantly White areas though. There are things I am still learning. There are those who think they know everything about minorities, and there are things I still don't know. I can tell some people are lecturing from a stance of arrogance.

It would not bother me as long as the culture at large didn't make it feel bad for my ethnic background and heritage.

Same for me. I'm Black and I don't mind if I'm in a majority White area, majority Asian area, majority-Hispanic area, doesn't matter. As long as I'm treated with respect and the area is safe, I can be there, no problem.
