i would be more concerned if their behavior was not like mine. i can tolerate skin tone difference pretty easily but not behavior differences. if you are getting mugged or raped the skin tone is the least of your problems.
Oddly enough, is that I think I would feel comfortable as long as its a fairly liberal city (and I consider myself conservative) with low crime and arts.
Race is not something that I dwell on like many people here. The demographics of the city arent as important as other factors of that city. If the city has plenty of arts (concerts, museums, theater) and rather safe areas I would be happy as long as people are open and accepting of others regardless of their race, religion, country of origin etc.
I definitely would not, that is why I could never see myself spending the rest of my life in a city like Detroit or El Paso for example.
That comes as no surprise coming from you. It doesn't bother me one bit and I have done so all my life and I am Black. Predominantly white neighbourhoods, the only Black in a work place (when I worked for other people). Lived in Norway as a kid for a few years and there were no Blacks I can remember although my mum tells me different.
These days in London I'm surround by people from East India/Pakistan.
You ought to try it, maybe you wouldn't be so narrow minded and bigoted.
I'm a minority in this small town. Do I feel at home? Yes and no. Most my nieghbors speak Spanish or Punjabi, I do not. I'm white and with red-hair. I think it's the language barrier, that prevents me to feel comfortable. When I walk down the street, and I come across another, I always smile, and get a smile in return. I tend to have alot more comunication with the kids in the neighborhood.
It depends on the majority race. If the majority race has low levels of crime and violence of course you wouldn’t be worried. If the majority race commits 90% of the violent crime in this country obviously even people of the same race would rather not live there.
I grew up in a black majority town and rode a school bus where I was the only white male on the bus and decided not to put my kids through that situation and moved to a state thousands of miles from where I grew up....needless to say, I voted yes. However it depends on the circumstance, I've lived in Asia and where I currently work, most of the people I work with are Asian and I have no issues other than culturally we are different. I also lived in South America with no issues.
I don't feel comfortable living in any city, period.
