I do now, I have been my entire life, but what about going to a place overseas where you are the only American around. You have to learn how to be able to get along with people regardless of there background or what color they are. If you can let small things that that bother you, you will have problems no matter where you go.
I tend not to notice race at all; I get along with anyone of any race who is a decent person. So I think I could live in a city that was less than 10% my population BUT that's assuming it is a nice area. I like more upscale suburban areas, low crime, manicured lawns, where people don't throw their trash out of their car window and trash out their neighborhoods and take pride in their neighborhood and take care of their property. As long as I'm in a neighborhood like that, I wouldn't care if my neighbors were not the same race as me.
Yes and no. I have done so most of my life (black woman living in the Pacific Northwest), but I don't want my children to be raised that way, either being in a vast majority or minority. It was part of the reason I picked Charlotte, NC, over Atlanta, Ga. Atlanta was not diverse enough for me, at least not the areas I could afford!
Once the kids are out of the picture, I would not mind living in a place that is not diverse, as long as they are tolerant and accepting of people that don't look like them (or at least the majority of people are this way). Seattle and Portland come to mind.
No, I would not. Too many cultural differences. I am not racist, however I also don't identify with blacks or Mexicans as much as I do white people. To many people, that may seem racist but I don't view it as such.
This, for most people is an unanswerable question, until one experiences the situation to see what the reactiln is. It's like asking "If you were in a burning building, would you run outside, or would you help other people reach safety?" There is not one among us who can say which we would do, until the situation arises.
Would you rather live with people like you or who look like you? If you are a physician would you rather chat with other physicians who are of another race or a street cleaner of your race?
It's already the case with me being mixed...so I really don't care. Everyone thinks I'm latino or from Brazil. When I was a little baby, I was really pale with straight black hair. People thought I was SE Asian. People are really similar you know...the people that claim that they just don't get that point.
I am completely comfortable being the only white person in a group. I was actually the only white child out of six kids. My mom was portuguese, my brothers and sister are Mexican/Indian/Portuguese and I am Dutch/German/Jew/Portuguese with red hair and freckles. My siblings have brown hair, skin and eyes, I was always the little gringo at family reunions and barbecues.
