That could be a compromise. But really, I don't understand what the big deal is about the word 'marriage'. By allowing gays to be married does not require any religous organization to marry them in their church/temple/mosque. And lets face it....the heteros are the ones that have made a mockery of not only the word 'marriage' but of the institution itself!

It is no problem getting married in a church.....many churches sanctify same sex marriages. The problem is getting equal rights. If that is impossible I think all existing marriages should be annulled and let churches marry whom-so-ever they choose and let the only legal union be civil unions available to all adult couples regardless of race or sexual orientation. It might feel a bit uncomfortable while your marriage is annulled and you and your children are bastardized...but you will get used to it after awhile. At this point I dont even want to let the state put its dirty hands on my marriage.....I hold it too sacred and permanent for that shifting fickled state.
