GWB was at the helm when we crashed. He owns a fair share of the blame. What I don't understand and never will is why his willing accomplices are not held accountable. By this I do mean senate and congress. The last 2 years have been the least productive in memory. We had Barney Frank get a complete walk for his part in the crisis.
Congress has all time low approval rating and justifiably so. They tanked it. More than likely on purpose no less.
Senator Biden what did you do to prevent the crisis? Mrs. Clinton? President Elect Obama? Any Republicans out there? The crickets are chirping.
As a Dem I will say this, I do think that Bush has received an unfair bad reputation, but here is why. The man should have never been elected into office in the first place. This is not to start WWIII, but honestly, when candidates are selected I often wonder how, why, wtf? This idea has run in my mind several times with dem choices as well so this not a dem v repub issue. Honestly, he just should have never made it that far. So, I don't fault him, I fault the public that voted for him.
I agree with Donn and Bostonian (sp). During an international conflict, presidents rarely have high approval ratings. Harry S. Truman, for example, was an extremely unpopular president coming out of office, but as time went on his approval went back up. The same thing will happen to Bush; he had to make decisions--most of which I agree with--and criticism is expected. History will uphold his honor.

On the other hand, Warren Harding was a very popular person. He has since landed at the bottom of the Presidential list, historically speaking. If history is the final arbiter, then Bush's honor, as you put it, will not be upheld--mainly because he never had any.
