Before anyone begins to go off the 'deep end' on this issue, let's first be clear about what exacgtly Obama may do about diminishing abortion counseling; does that really mean eliminating it completely or revising it? There is a big difference.
As in any medical procedure, there is counseling and frequently options and/or choices. For example, someone with a heart problem may be given (provided it is life-threatening at that moment) stents or bypass. A person may have had an accident and be told that there could be options, such as surgery to repair, let's say a torn muscle such as your quad or being put in an immobilizer for 6 months and then determine whether anything else should be done or not; some one could be advised to radically change their diet or have their gallbladder removed (again, I am not suggesting these as mere options if life-treatening situations). A person can go to an MD to discuss an illness or problem and learn what medical treatments are available to them & they can go to a naturopathic physician or other alternative practitioner and learn what medical treatments are available with them.
The more educated a person becomes based on counseling and explanation of procedure(s), the more someone can make a more comfortable and thought-through choice, albeit giving birth and keeping the child, giving the child up for adoption or termination.
As such, regardless if there is modification of the "abortion counseling" or not, a physician is going to give hiis/her patient counseling because counseling is part of a medical procedure.
As such, pro-choice does not equate to pro-abortion; it continues to equate to choice and said counseling, even if minimized, provides choices, and I have illustrated 3.
If this is true, it's very good news indeed. Although the article does not say for certain Obama will reverse the policies. Obama also needs to reverse the first executive order bush issued the day after he was inaugurated - the Mexico City Policy. The NYT article linked to Kingdom Obama contains an extensive list of what Obama intends to take on first . BTW - Who owns Kingdom Obama. I can't find any info.
Clip:
In his first major policy action as President, George W. Bush issued an executive order reinstating President Reagan's Mexico City policy, which denies U.S. aid to any group that performs or promotes abortion overseas, or advocates that a foreign government change its abortion laws. Human Events: Bush reinstates Mexico City policy
Clip from NYT Article:
In that same vein, the Obama transition team has identified executive orders he can sign in the first hours and days of his presidency to demonstrate action, even as the more ambitious promises take more time. Among other things, he can reverse a variety of Bush policies, like restrictions on abortion counseling and stem-cell research. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/09/us...gewanted=print
Now THAT would be very good news indeed! I'll never forget or forgive Bush for doing that, great start to his presidency!
Thanks about the great strides that are being made and have been made with Parkinson's Disease because of the use of fetal tissue.....I suspect that there will be other amazing medical improvements as well; if you have a loved one who is suffering terribly from a horrible disease, would you not want to avail any possible chance of cure, or remission of that illness. I would think so.
